WSU Canvas Course Archiving - Student Guide

Starting May 2025, older Canvas courses will be archived as part of WSU’s data management process. Here’s what this means for you as a student.

How Long Do I Have Access to Past Courses?

Students can access past Canvas courses for 7 years from the semester end date. After this, courses will be archived and no longer available.

Use the "Past Enrollments" section in Canvas to find your past courses. If a course less than seven years old does not appear in your Past Enrollments, your instructor may have hidden it and you will need to contact them to regain access.

‌ What Can I Download Before Courses Are Archived?

Unlike instructors, students cannot export full courses. However, you can still download your assignment submissions from past courses.

Important Dates

  • May 2025 – Students will lose access to archived courses from Academic Year 2011-2012 through 2016-2017.
  • May 2026 – Courses from Academic Year 2017-2018 will be archived.
  • May 2027 – Courses from Academic Year 2018-2019 will be archived.
  • Archiving continues annually.

How do I request Course Content?

If you need access to instructional videos or course files that are not publically available, email your instructor to request access. Course content provided by a third-party vendor (such as digital textbook materials and educational technology) may not be available after a course ends due to copyright restrictions.

Important: Academic transcripts are available in the eWeber portal or through the Records office. There is no need to download course lists or grades from Canvas.
