Scholarships
In the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, we have a number of different scholarships offered within our programs and departments. To qualify for any of these scholarships, you must fill out the FAFSA and Specialized Scholarship Application (located in your eWeber portal). Since scholarships are generally awarded in the spring, it is best to complete these steps by Dec. 1 for the following academic year. After completing these steps, reach out to the listed contact of the department or program to learn more about how to apply for the individual scholarship.

- Brad H. Davis Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student with a declared major in English or any of the Social and Behavioral Sciences, have a 3.0 GPA or better, be registered with Services for Students with Disabilities and be involved in a leadership position within student government or a student club/organization.

- Chris & Audrey Hatch Social & Behavioral Sciences Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major or minor in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. Preference given to those with financial need. A one-page essay must be submitted, "How being awarded this scholarship would make a difference in my life."

- College of Social & Behavioral Sciences General Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be enrolled in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and financial need. May be enrolled full or part-time.

- Cora L. & David B. Neal - Math Is Fun Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be an undergraduate student majoring in a Social and Behavioral Sciences field with a 2.5 GPA or higher. May be enrolled full or part-time. Preference given to a student who is also minoring in a STEM program.

- Kotter-MacKay Public History Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major within the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. May be enrolled full or part-time. First preference given to those with a Public History minor. Previous recipients may reapply.

- Oliver F. Murray Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must 1) have a declared major within the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, 2) have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, 3) have participated in Walker Institute of Politics Speech & Public Service programming and 4) be enrolled full or part-time. Preferences will be given to students majoring in political science or communication and students with a strong interest in leadership and civic engagement. Previous recipients may reapply.

- Rich-Greer Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and a minimum GPA of 2.3, with preference given to students whose studies focus on any of the following: (1) environmental awareness and sustainability; (2) Earth processes; and (3) people, culture and society. Previous recipients may re-apply if their GPA was maintained or has increased from the previous year of receiving the award.

- Shaylee Wheeler Papadakis Community Engagement Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and a minimum GPA of 3.0, with preference given to sociology majors. May be enrolled full or part-time. Recipients must enroll and complete at least one designated community engaged learning class or a class approved by the Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) during the same year of receiving the scholarship. Preference will be given to students participating in a community engagement opportunity that involves research. Preference will also be given for financial need.

- Rosemary Conover Anthropology Scholarship
The scholarship recipient may be attending full or part time, must have completed a minimum of four courses in anthropology (three of these must been completed at WSU), have cumulative 2.0 GPA, declared major in anthropology and must have demonstrated, in the judgment of the selection committee, the ability to excel in the discipline and be likely to contribute to its future. In addition to coursework, it is preferred that the recipient has achieved one or more scholarly accomplishments in anthropology outside of regular class assignments.

- Live Your Dash-Dee Smith Memorial Criminal Justice Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be enrolled as a junior or senior, have a declared major in the Department of Criminal Justice and have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. May be enrolled full or part-time. Preference given to those students pursuing a career as a law enforcement officer. Previous recipients may reapply.
Uses: tuition, fees and other educational expenses.
- Nathan Lyday Police Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time junior or senior with a declared major in criminal justice and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference made for applicants interested in a law enforcement career.
The award pays tuition, fees and other educational expenses. Two $1,500 scholarships are to be awarded each year to represent Nathan's 15 months of service.
- Raechale Elton Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be attending full-time, be an undergraduate criminal justice major and have a major GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given to a female student. Preference will also be given for a focus in corrections.

- Stephanie M. Stewart Criminal Justice Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student majoring in criminal justice with a WSU GPA of at least 3.0. Preference will be given to groups that previously have been excluded from and continue to be underrepresented in law enforcement.

- Toby Candilora Criminal Justice Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in the Department of Criminal Justice. May be enrolled full or part-time. Preference given to students pursuing a career as a law enforcement officer.

- Geography Alumni Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full time student majoring in geography and have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA.

- Dr. Dello G. Dayton Memorial Student Award
The Dello G. Dayton Student Award recipient must be a student in the political science or history departments. May be attending full or part-time.

- Dr. O. Richard Eberle Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a history major, have a 3.5 GPA and may be attending full or part time. Preference will be given to a non-traditional student with the intent to teach history at the secondary school or university level.

- Evelyn Harrington & Mary Gordon Asian Studies Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be an undergraduate, full-time student enrolled in the Asian studies program at WSU and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Preference will be given to those students who have completed at least 2 semesters of an Asian foreign language (or the equivalent in comprehensive credit) and one Asian history course. Applicants will need to submit an essay.

- Henry Ibarguen Latin American History Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a history major or minor with a WSU GPA of at least 2.5. Preference given to those that show need. Preference will be given to individuals who have faced challenging social, economic, educational, cultural or other life circumstances and to first generation college students, defined as ‘neither parent having received a four-year degree.'

- History Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major or minor in the Department of History and a minimum GPA of 2.5. May be enrolled full or part time.

- Jack & Betty Lampros History Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in the Department of History and may be attending full or part-time.
Uses: tuition, fees (class and department fees are included) and other educational expenses.
- Kotter-MacKay Public History Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major within the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. May be enrolled full or part-time. First preference given to those with a Public History minor. Previous recipients may reapply.

- Lola Allred Sessions History Hybrid Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student with a declared major in history who is eligible for in-state tuition and shows unique promise as a history major.

- Martha H. Collet Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared minor in public history and a minimum GPA of 2.5. May be enrolled full or part-time. Recipients may be resident or non-resident students and do not have to be U.S. citizens.

- Oma E. and George B. Wilcox Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be majoring in political science, history, philosophy or communication. May be enrolled full or part time. Preference given to students who can demonstrate financial need.

- Richard and Rose Ulibarri History Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a history major or minor or indicate a decision to be a history major or minor. Preference will be given to students from Ogden or Ben Lomond High Schools. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. Preference may be given to individuals who have faced challenging social, economic, educational, cultural or other life circumstances. Minimum GPA to be determined by the Department of History.

- Stan Layton Special Achievement Award
The Stan Layton Special Achievement Award in History is a need-based financial scholarship for a history major or minor. WSU history majors and minors are encouraged to submit a hard-copy letter to the WSU History Scholarship Committee describing how receipt of this award would be financially helpful to you and the completion of your studies at WSU. All correspondence will remain confidential. Method: Deliver hard-copy letter in a sealed envelope to the Department of History office administrator, Jenna Daniels, care of the History Scholarship Committee.
- Wat Misaka Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared minor in Asian studies, have a 2.5 GPA or higher, may be a full or part-time student and have demonstrated interest in Asian history, culture and/or language. Preference will be given to Asian American students or those pursuing opportunities to study abroad in Asia. Applicants will need to submit a resume and one-page letter of interest.

- Dr. Robert S. Fudge Philosophy Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a sophomore and a philosophy major with a WSU GPA of at least 3.5 who has successfully completed at least 9 credits of philosophy courses, earning at least a "C" or better in each.
Uses: tuition and fees.
- Jocelyn C. Glidden Distinguished Philosophy Scholarship
The recipient must be a part-time or full-time student participating and contributing to the Philosophy Program, have an exceptional GPA in their philosophy courses and live with a philosophical spirit.
Cash award. May be used for personal or academic purposes.
- Oma E. and George B. Wilcox Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be majoring in political Science, history, philosophy or communication. May be enrolled full or part time. Preference given to students who can demonstrate financial need.

- Philosophy Adversity Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a philosophy major, a junior or senior at the time of award and must have a WSU GPA of at least 2.5. Applicants must write a short narrative essay (two pages maximum) that addresses two things: (1) adversity they have faced and overcome in the past and (2) adversity they are now facing that this scholarship will help them overcome.

- Richard Richards Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student with a declared major or minor in political science or philosophy and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. The recipient must be able to demonstrate involvement in community service and/or campus student government. Applicants should submit a resume and one-page letter of interest to the Department of Political Science and Philosophy.

- Dr. Dello G. Dayton Memorial Student Award
The Dello G. Dayton Student Award recipient must be a student in the political science or history departments. May be attending full or part-time.

- Dr. T. Ramakrishna Reddy and Prasanna Reddy Scholarship
Reddy scholarship for juniors and seniors with a declared major in political science.
- Major Brent and Jennie Taylor Scholarship
The scholarship recipient(s) must meet one (1) of the following three (3) criteria:
1. Must have participated in the semi-annual Speech Showcase and be selected as the top speaker(s).
2. Must have participated in Weber Speaks and delivered speeches to government and civic organizations and be selected as the top speaker(s).
3. Must have participated in Walker Institute of Politics Speech and Public Service competitions and be selected as the top speaker(s).
4. In addition to meeting one of the criteria above, preferences will be given to:
- Students majoring in political science or communication.
- Students with a strong interest in leadership in politics and international relations.

- Norris C. & Leon C. Brace Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in political science and demonstrate financial need.

The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student with a declared major or minor in political science or philosophy and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. The recipient must be able to demonstrate involvement in community service and/or campus student government. - Ted & Judith Parke Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a declared major in political science with a 3.0 GPA,and must be a full-time student at the time of applying for this scholarship. Preference will be given to applicants that graduated from a high school in the Weber County School District, located in Weber County, Utah, and also to juniors and seniors.

- Weber County Republican Women’s Book Scholarship
The scholarship recipient may be a full or part-time student, have a declared major in political science, may be a junior or senior, have a 3.0 GPA or higher and demonstrate volunteer work or involvement in community services and/or city government. An essay and resume will need to be submitted.

- James B. Harvey Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be majoring in the field of psychology.

- Jewell Horvat Memorial Native American Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student with a minimum GPA of 2.25. Preference will be given to juniors or seniors and to psychological science students. If no psychology students qualify, it can then be awarded to criminal justice or social work students. Strong preference will be given to students who identify as Native American. A one-page essay must be written and submitted to the Department of Psychology about your background with the Native American culture and what this award will mean to you. Previous recipients may reapply each year, as long as they continue to meet the requirements.

- Psychological Science Department Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major or minor in the Department of Psychological Science and a minimum GPA of 2.5. May be enrolled full or part-time.

- Collin J. and Nikole L. Smith Social Work Scholarship
Must be a non-traditional student (out of high school for at least ten years) with a declared major in social work and a minimum GPA of 2.5. May be enrolled full or part-time. A 300-500 word essay is required describing applicant's "experiences as a nontraditional student returning to school and how this decision has impacted their life."

- Jerry B. Jensen Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be either a full-time student with a declared major in social work or sociology and a minimum GPA of 3.0 or a student that has applied for and been formally admitted to the Master of Social Work Program.

- Robert Hunter - United Way of Northern Utah Social Work Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a junior or senior majoring in social work and have a 3.3 overall GPA or better. The recipient must also be able to demonstrate past community service and be able to continue to perform community service through the United Way of Northern Utah or one of its designated agencies. May be enrolled full or part-time.

- Social Work Department Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a junior or senior with formal admittance into the social work program and have a 2.5 GPA or better. Recipient must have evidence of involvement in social work activities beyond the required work. These include, but are not limited to, discipline-related volunteer activities, membership in student and professional organizations, attendance at professional conferences and meetings, contribution to social work's knowledge/theory base, involvement in fundraising and/or promoting social work as a profession and/or promoting the WSU social work program.

- William Hughes & Barbara Morrell-Hughes Social Work Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in social work and an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference will be given to single parents and to those who qualify for financial aid.

- Daniel T. Gallego Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student majoring in sociology with a 2.5 GPA or better and have reasonable expectation of completing a degree in sociology. Preference given to students of Latino heritage or other minority or who have no family tradition for higher education.

- Jerry B. Jensen Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be either a full-time student with a declared major in social work or sociology and a minimum GPA of 3.0 or a student that has applied for and been formally admitted to the Master of Social Work Program.

- Davis Behavioral Health Master of Social Work Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full time student who has applied for and been formally admitted to the Master of Social Work program at WSU. Recipient must also have earned an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and maintain a master's GPA of at least 3.0. Preference will be given to students with financial need, to bilingual students, to students that live in or near the Ogden area that want to work with Weber or Davis County residents and to students who indicate a willingness to fulfill an internship with Davis Behavioral Health.

- Jerry B. Jensen Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be either a full-time student with a declared major in social work or sociology and a minimum GPA of 3.0 or a student that has applied for and been formally admitted to the Master of Social Work Program.

- Keith and Sharon Carrigan Social Work Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full time social work student at the graduate level and have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. Preference will be given to students with financial need, to students with an interest in working at Davis Behavioral Health and to students who are married and have dependent child(ren), or who have faced other challenging social, economic, educational, cultural or other life circumstances.

- Weber Human Services Master of Social Work Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student that has applied for and been formally admitted to the Master of Social Work program. Recipient must have earned an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and must maintain a master's GPA of at least 3.0. Preference will be given to: students with financial need, bilingual students, students that live in or near the Ogden area that want to work with Weber County residents and students who indicate a willingness to fulfill an internship with Weber Human Services.

- America First Credit Union Capitol Hill Intern Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full- or part-time student in good academic standing. Students from all academic disciplines are encouraged. Recipients will be selected through the Walker Institute for an internship in Washington, D.C. The internship must be either on Capitol Hill within an office, committee or function of the United States Congress or within the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to leadership, public service and/or academic achievement.
The award pays internship expenses including tuition, fees, travel, housing or any other needs deemed worthy by the Walker Institute.
- Bank of Utah Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be at least a sophomore with an overall 2.5 GPA or greater, have demonstrated financial need or be economically disadvantaged and be a U.S. citizen and resident of Davis or Weber County. Recipient must also be involved in a Walker Institute-supported internship or service experience. May be attending full or part time. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors.

- Dr. Kay Thompson Rawson Swan Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior involved in an internship or service experience supported by the Walker Institute who has a desire to serve in an internship position for an elected official. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors, to registered members of the Democratic Party and to students who have been candidates for public service in student government or the community. Recipient may be attending full or part-time. A resume and one-page letter of interest is required
Internship and fellowship expenses including travel, housing and fees or any other necessary needs deemed worthy by the Walker Institute.
- Major Brent and Jennie Taylor Scholarship
The scholarship recipient(s) must meet one (1) of the following three (3) criteria:

- Michael & Leslie Grow Washington, D.C. Internship Scholarship
The recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a 2.5 overall GPA or better and be involved in an internship or service experience supported by the Walker Institute. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors and to students with a 3.0 overall GPA or better. Applicants may be attending full or part-time. Students may apply by submitting a resume and a one-page letter of interest.
To be used for internship and fellowship expenses related to the Michael & Leslie Grow Washington, D.C. Internship including travel, housing and fees or any other necessary needs deemed worthy by the Walker Institute.
- Olene S. Walker Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a 2.5 overall GPA or better and involved in a Walker Institute-supported internship or service experience. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors and to students with a 3.0 overall GPA or better. May be enrolled full or part-time.
This scholarship provides a cash award to assist with internship costs, travel, housing, books or other educational expenses deemed worthy by the Walker Institute.
- Oliver F. Murray Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must 1) have a declared major within the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, 2) have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, 3) have participated in Walker Institute of Politics Speech & Public Service programming and 4) be enrolled full or part-time. Preferences will be given to students majoring in political science or communication and students with a strong interest in leadership and civic engagement. Previous recipients may reapply.

- Richard Richards Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student with a declared major or minor in political science or philosophy and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. The recipient must be able to demonstrate involvement in community service and/or campus student government. Applicants should submit a resume and one-page letter of interest to the Department of Political Science and Philosophy.

- Richard Richards High School Senior Ethics Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be high school senior who plans to attend Weber State University after high school graduation.

- Richard Richards Internship & Study Abroad Stipend
The stipend recipient must be a WSU student participating in an internship opportunity approved by the university or a program through the Study Abroad office.
Uses: $1,000 stipend to use for study abroad or internship expenses
- Richard Richards Ethics Certificate Stipend
The stipend recipient must be a WSU student, who has completed the requirements for the Certificate of Ethics program.

- Evelyn Harrington & Mary Gordon Asian Studies Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be an undergraduate, full-time student enrolled in the Asian studies program at WSU and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Preference will be given to those students who have completed at least 2 semesters of an Asian foreign language (or the equivalent in comprehensive credit) and one Asian history course. Applicants will need to submit an essay.
Uses: tuition and student fees (no class or department fees are included).
- Wat Misaka Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must have a declared minor in Asian studies, have a 2.5 GPA or higher, may be a full or part-time student and have demonstrated interest in Asian history, culture and/or language. Preference will be given to Asian American students or those pursuing opportunities to study abroad in Asia. Applicants will need to submit a resume and one-page letter of interest.
Uses: tuition, fees, books and other educational expenses as deemed appropriate by the committee.

- Brian M. Thacker Military Science Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be attending full time, have a 3.0 GPA or higher, be an MS1, MS2 or MS3 status (freshman, sophomore or junior), be able to demonstrate financial need and must participate and perform well in academics, fitness, attendance and general military aptitude. Students must submit a one-page application

- Jack Gilbert Brown ROTC Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a member of the ROTC program and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Strong preference for those pursuing an active duty military career. A one page essay is required explaining, “How you feel about serving your country.” Previous recipients may reapply.

- Robert W. Barker Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a junior or senior with a declared major in any field pursuing pre-law. Preference will be given to seniors who have already received the scholarship as juniors. Applicants must submit a one-page letter of inquiry on why they are pursuing a law degree.

The scholarship recipient must have a declared major within the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. May be enrolled full or part-time. First preference given to those with a public history minor. Previous recipients may reapply.

- Phoenix Achievement Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be an undergraduate full-time student (12 hours or more), have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher, be participating in the Women, Gender & Queer Studies program and be making satisfactory progress toward a degree. Preference will be given to non-traditional women students (defined as 25 years of age or older). Preference may also be given for financial need.

- Women & Gender Studies Traditional Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student with a declared minor in Women & Gender Studies, be involved in the Women & Gender Studies program and be a traditional student aged 26 or younger.
