Ding Dong! It’s time to register for your spring courses! Registration opens on November 6th, Schedule an appointment with your advisor before you register to make sure you stay on track.

Are you interested in earning flexible college credit in an interesting location? Consider taking a walk through the Windy City to learn more about how media is used in major markets like Chicago! The trip will be from March 1–9, 2023, over Spring Break, and is sure to be an exciting and vivid experience for all. Scholarships are limited, so don’t wait to apply! Student Accomplishments

Cheers to Karina Barboza, Utah PRSA Public Relations Student of the Year finalist

The Wildcat debaters had success yet again this weekend. Lency Umwiza was awarded 5th speaker for her excellent analysis skills while Gabe Parkin and Chris Henderson were the only 5-0 team at the tournament. In the final showcase debate Weber JP beat Arizona State DC, winning the 2023 David Frank Tournament of Scholars. GO CATS!

Congratulations to our Speech Team who took first place at the Steve Hunt Classic, the first major tournament of the Season.

Individual awards include:

  • Will Whitby: 1st in Junior Program of Oral Interpretation (POI), 2nd in Open Dramatic Interpretation (DI), and a Quarterfinalist in Novice IPDA Debate.
  • Keely Brinn: 2nd in Open Duo, 4th Open After Dinner Speaking (ADS), 5th in Open DI, and Octo finalist in Open IPDA Debate.
  • Kyle Indihar: 1st in Novice Informative Speaking (Info), 3rd in Junior POI, 8th overall top speaker in Novice IPDA Debate.
  • Lillyana Nunley: 1st in Duo, 4th in Open Poetry, 6th in Open Impromptu, 1st in Junior IPDA Debate, and overall top speaker in Junior IPDA Debate.
  • Morgan Allen: 1st in Open Info, 2nd in Open Impromptu, 5th in Open Poetry, 6th in Open DI, Quarterfinalist in Open IPDA, and 2nd overall speaker in Open IPDA. 
  • Jazmyne Olson: 2nd in Open POI, 2nd in Duo, 2nd in Open IPDA Debate, 3rd overall speaker in Open IPDA Debate
  • Alayna Ruiz: 2nd In Junior Prose, 3rd in Open Poetry, 4th in Open Communication Analysis, Semi-finalist in Novice IPDA, and 4th overall top speaker in Novice IPDA
  • Emmalee Prince: 4th in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking, Octo finalist in Novice IPDA Debate, and overall top speaker in Novice IPDA Debate.
  • Akir Rowe: 1st in Duo, and Quarterfinalist in Open IPDA Debate
  • Emma Rudell: 2nd in Open Poetry, 4th in Open DI, and 2nd in Novice IPDA Debate
  • Saxony Ruckman: 4th in Junior POI and Quarterfinalist in Junior IPDA

Alumni Accomplishments

Ben Brandley, 2018 graduate with an Interpersonal and Family emphasis, had his co-publication with Mike Ault featured in Vol. 1 No. 1 Communication Currents, which translates new communication research for lay audiences.

Faculty Accomplishments

Dr. Sheree Josephson virtually presented her experience in Tunis, Tunisia, as part of the U.S. State Department's ongoing effort to engage with aspiring Fulbright Specialists and provide them with insight into the experience of serving as a cultural ambassador and scholar. Josephson spent three weeks in May 2022 consulting with the staff of Radio ML 102.3 FM, a community radio station with talk shows that focus on government corruption, news, and fighting for human rights, especially for those of the disabled community. Josephson presented with another Fulbright Specialist who also served in the Middle East/North Africa region.
