This flexible, affordable two-year program provides the following benefits to students pursuing a Master's degree in Professional Communication:

Strong Professional Focus

Students come from a range of backgrounds and experiences. Some of our students are mid-career Communication professionals looking to move “up” in their careers. Others are professionals in other allied fields (including human resources, public health, finance, management, etc.) who have determined that enhancing their communication skills will help them get to or continue where they want to go. Some of our students are in early career stages and know that refining skills will give them a boost.

No matter their background, all of our students know that our program features classes that emphasize in-demand skills that they will use in their workplace the very next day.

Unique Format

Classes meet in an intensive hybrid format that allows students to take six credit hours a semester while only coming to campus one night a week for in-person classes (or, take 9 credits with only one more night a week). Students supplement their education with online learning experiences, providing the rich discussion, collaboration and networking benefits of a face-to-face classroom and while still allowing them to balance busy professional and home/family lives.

Strong Student Focus

WSU's MPC program works hard to ensure that every student can adapt the program offerings to best fit their goals. At the core of the program, students have the flexibility within core classes to pick courses that most closely match their career goals. For electives, students draw from interesting special topics classes or supplement their communication degree with courses in other graduate programs on the WSU campus that further their career goals. Students then choose a culminating experience – an academic master’s thesis, an applied professional project or a combination of additional elective classes – to finish in the way that accomplishes their goals.

Student Success

Our students are especially fun to work with because of all they achieve during and after our program. Several of our students have presented academic research they have conducted or applied projects they have created to local, national, and international conferences and professional organizations.

Many of our students have accepted new jobs or promotions during their time in our program or immediately after graduation. Our students are often recognized in their companies or industries for all they do and we are very proud of them.

New & Emerging Media Emphasis

Understanding the importance of integrated communication strategies is simply a must in today’s fast-paced digital world. Master of Professional Communication classes emphasize new and emerging forms of communication that allow individuals and organizations to constantly rethink, develop and implement solid communication strategies.
