Program Expectations - Benchmark Exams

The paramedic program is a taught in a linear or sequential model.  Knowledge and skills that are taught in the
eginning of the program are foundational.  As the program continues to build, all previous skills and knowledge
must be maintained. Please see below the various methods Weber State uses to verify immediate and longstanding
competencies. Should a student not achieve each of the competencies below, progression in the program is stopped.

  • Clinical Expectations
    • Cardiac Catheterization lab experience must be completed by end of Fall semester
    • 80% of ED time must be completed by end of Fall semester, the reainder prior to field internship
    • 50% of OR time must completed by end of Fall semester, the remainder prior to field internship
    • 100% of Psychiatric must time completed by February 21
    • 100% of OB time must be completed by February 21
    • As of September 1, 2015, per CoAEMSP/CAAHEP standards,
      ALL CLINICAL MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO FIELD INTERNSHIP
  • Field Internship
    • Unless there are extenuating circumstances, field internship must be completed prior to the
      first day of the Summer semester. Extensions (if granted) will not exceed the first 7 week block
      of the next semester

      PAR 2000             Introduction to Paramedic
      • 22 open book quizzes         
      •  1 EMT Assessment (proctored) exam
      •  3 proctored unit exams. (75% average required)
      •  1 final exam – 75% required on no more than two attempts

      PAR 3010             Cardiac and Medical Emergencies
      • 16-20 open book quizzes           
      •  4 secure (proctored) unit exams (75% average required)
      •  2 EKG/ACLS Treatment exams
      •  1 EKG/ACLS Treatment Exam Benchmark (must be passed on no more than 3 attempts)
      •  1 final exam – 75% required on no more than two attempts
       
      PAR 2030             Special Populations
      •  6 open book quizzes             
      •  1 secure unit exam
      •  1 EKG Exam
      •  1 PALS Exam
      •  1 final exam – 75% required on no more than two attempts
       
      PAR 2020             Trauma Emergencies
      •  6 open book quizzes             
      •  1 secure unit exam
      •  1 EKG Exam
      •  1 final exam – 75% required on no more than two attempts

      PAR 2040             Paramedic Clinical I (Skill Lab)
      • Cardiac Team Management Benchmark (must be passed on no more than 3 attempts)
      • Pediatric Team Management Benchmark (must be passed on no more than 3 attempts)
      • PAR 2040 Comprehensive Benchmark Exam (must be passed with 80% on no more than 2 attempts)
      • Mock National Registry Exam – 9 stations (must pass 5 of 9 to progress to field internship)

           PAR 2100             Advanced Paramedic Practice
      • PowerPoint Assignment with bulleted review sheet
      • 2 EKG Exams
      • 1 EKG Competency Exam Benchmark (must be passed with 80% on no more than 2 attempts)
      • ACLS Verification Exam Benchmark (must be passed with 84% on no more than 2 attempts)
      • PALS Verification Exam Benchmark (must be passed with 84% on no more than 2 attempts)
      • Oral Examination Boards Benchmark with Dr. Apfelbaum (must be passed on no more than 2 attempts)
      • PAR 2100 Comprehensive Benchmark Exam (must be passed with 80% on no more than 2 attempts)
