Weber State Offers Community Holiday Support
OGDEN, Utah – With the holiday season fast approaching, Weber State University is partnering with the Community Christmas program to provide an opportunity to benefit those in need.
Community Christmas is a holiday assistance program that is organized by a committee of community volunteers, which partners with WSU’s Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL). Community Christmas provides holiday assistance to more than 2,000 children living in need in the Weber, Davis and Box Elder areas. Community Christmas not only provides gifts and a holiday carnival for the children but also connects their families with resources to help them be successful.
“Every child deserves a magical Christmas,” said Tami McBride, Community Christmas coordinator. “With the help and support of our wonderful community partners, we can make a difference for those right here in our community.”
For those interested in donating, Community Christmas Giving Trees will be at WSU Ogden Campus in the Shepherd Union Building Atrium and at the Stewart Center Atrium on WSU Davis Campus (2750 N., University Park Blvd., Layton)
Donation tags are hanging on the Giving Trees or can be found online here. Donation sign-ups will be open from Nov. 11 through Dec. 10.
Participants can drop off donations by Dec. 10 at the CCEL office in Shepherd Union Room 324 or at WSU Davis Stewart Center Suite 221.
This year’s Community Christmas carnival and store will be held at Ben Lomond High School. Parents and guardians are able to come “shop” for free holiday gifts, and all families are welcome to enjoy the carnival.
Starting on Nov. 29, volunteers will start donation pick-up from various businesses and locations in the community. All donations must be picked up by Dec. 10.
On Dec. 10 and 11, volunteers are also needed to set up, work and take down the carnival and store after the festivities.
Those interested in these volunteer opportunities can contact CCEL at ccel@weber.edu or sign up with Community Christmas here.
“I am so glad to have the opportunity to be involved with Community Christmas at Weber State,” said Kary Makela, WSUSA Community Engagement Team member. “I’m excited for the WSU community to support a great organization.”
The Community Christmas program is made possible through support from over 900 volunteers and donations from hundreds local businesses. For more information, visit weber.edu/ccel/community-christmas.
