WSU’s Walker Institute to host ‘Meet the Candidates Night’
OGDEN, Utah — In the run-up to local elections in Weber and Davis Counties, Weber State University’s Olene S. Walker Institute of Politics & Public Service will welcome candidates to participate in a Q&A session called “Meet the Candidates Night” at WSU’s Ogden and Davis campus, respectively.
These unique events will allow candidates for various political offices including the Utah State Legislature, U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives to speak with the residents of Davis and Weber counties. Residents will also be able to ask questions and let their voices be heard.
“Often we focus on getting people registered to vote and then mobilizing them to get out to vote. What is missing is the preparation for voting,” said Leah Murray, director of the Walker Institute. “Every person should know as much information as possible to make a good decision on their ballot that matches how they would like to be represented. Candidate nights are an excellent way to get to know a candidate, one on one, with no spin. Voters can meet the candidates running in their district and have a conversation about their vision.”
The Weber County event will be held from 6–8 p.m. on Sept. 30 in the Dumke Legacy Hall room at the Hurst Center at the WSU Ogden campus.
The Davis County event will be held from 6–8 pm on Oct. 7 in the Stewart Ballroom at the WSU Davis campus.
Both events are open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
