Weber State, NUHOPE walk step by step for suicide prevention

OGDEN, Utah — NUHOPE is partnering with Weber State University and Intermountain Health to host the 17th Annual Suicide Awareness and Prevention Walk on Sept. 21 at the Ogden Amphitheater.

The NUHOPE walk offers a community for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide and those in need of mental health support. Registration is free but not required, and everyone is welcome to attend.

“Connection is a critical protective factor when it comes to mental health,” said Lindsey Pulver, NUHOPE program specialist at Weber State. “Too often people who experience mental illness or suicide loss feel isolated in their experience.”

A group of people walking together. Before the walk, participants can find resources and information on mental health and advocacy groups. A memory wall will also be available to honor loved ones.

“On the day of the walk, it’s amazing to see how we all come together after experiencing loss or almost losing someone,” said Lisa Herring-Murray, who lost her husband to suicide in 2012. “It’s about providing acceptance and support for each other.”

A brief program centered on hope and connection will start at 11 a.m. in the Ogden Amphitheater, located at 343 E. 25th St.

The walk itself begins at 11:30 a.m. outside the amphitheater. Participants will follow a six-block route through historic downtown Ogden, and are encouraged to follow the designated route ending at the Harvest Moon Celebration.

“NUHOPE would like to thank the Harvest Moon Celebration and the Ogden Downtown Alliance for their continued support and partnership in this event,” Pulver said.
