OGX Wildcat Shuttle offers new ride to class
OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University officially welcomed the Wildcat Shuttle, a more efficient and environmentally conscious way to navigate the Ogden campus, during a ribbon-cutting Aug. 25.
WSU students, faculty and staff gathered outside the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts at the center of campus – home to one of the shuttle’s three stops, along with the Dee Events Center and Wildcat Village – to celebrate the debut of the all-electric shuttles.
The Wildcat Shuttle is the first segment of the Ogden Express Bus Rapid Transit line, known as OGX. Shuttles run every 10 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, and are free to ride. Campus-inspired art created by Weber State staff will be on display at all three stations.
“The opening of OGX is a milestone to making our campus so much more accessible to our students, faculty, staff and community,” said Brad Mortensen, WSU president. “I’m excited to see the change and growth this brings to Weber State.”
James Larson, UTA public relations specialist, said the Wildcat Shuttle is an important first step toward a larger goal.
“Utah Transit Authority is excited to see the OGX Wildcat Shuttle opening fall semester,” Larson said. “We are at the halfway point on this project, and the entire OGX line will open late 2023.”
When finished, the full OGX line will include stops at the Ogden Intermodal Transit Center, The Junction, downtown Ogden, along 25th Street and Harrison Boulevard, and McKay-Dee Hospital.
The $120 million bus rapid transit project aims to combine the capacity and speed of light rail with the low-cost construction of a bus route.
