WSU’s respiratory therapy program honored for credentialing success rate
OGDEN, Utah — The Department of Respiratory Therapy at Weber State University was awarded the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialing Success Award on July 14 by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.

The RRT credential prepares students to fulfill leadership roles and other professional aspirations.
“It really makes our graduates stand out from other candidates and prepares them for management positions,” said Michell Oki, chair of WSU’s Department of Respiratory Therapy. “Our program is one of the few in the state that offers credentialing at the baccalaureate level.”
As graduates begin securing careers, Oki said many healthcare providers give preference to candidates who have their RRT credential, and some are beginning to require it.
In the past three years, more than 200 students have graduated with degrees in respiratory therapy from Weber State.
Upon graduation, students have the skills to care for patients in various areas including newborn intensive care, adult critical care and emergency care. They also work to educate patients with asthma, emphysema or other breathing conditions.
