Weber State, National Security Agency partner to bolster tech training
OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University continues to build its relationship with the National Security Agency with the signing of a new Educational Partnership Agreement.
An EPA is an agreement between the NSA and an educational institution to transfer or enhance technology and provide technical assistance to the institution. Under an EPA, NSA innovators can provide training and mentoring to personnel in STEM fields.
“The EPA opens up another way to gain government expertise for students who want to serve in that way,” said Matt Paulson, director of Weber State’s Cybersecurity Initiative. “Now, the NSA can offer internships and other educational opportunities for our students that they normally wouldn’t be able to.”
The agreement was signed March 15 at a ceremony in Layton, making Weber State one of the only universities in northern Utah to hold an EPA with the NSA.
In 2021, Weber State was designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education, a program sponsored jointly by the NSA and the Department of Homeland Security that aims to reduce vulnerability in the national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in cyber defense.
“We’re providing meaningful cybersecurity education that can be used in any context,” Paulson said. “We’re excited to work with government agencies and the military because of our partnership with Hill Air Force Base, but Weber State can teach anybody the skills they need to protect information in any industry.”
