Who Can Be in Foundations Learning Communities?

  • High school seniors and students accepted to Weber State University.
  • Math placement Level 1, 2, or 3, and an English placement Level 1 or 2.

There’s a place for you here.

College doesn’t have to be stressful! We especially encourage first-generation, low-income, and undocumented students to apply.

  • If you’re at Level 0 or 1, don’t hesitate to apply. We offer several support options to help you meet our preferred levels, including workshops and testing options.
  • For those at Level 3 or higher, we encourage you to explore our Major Pathways Learning Communities for similar support.

Math & English Placement Levels

WSU provides placement exams to determine the course level that’s best for you. Visit the Math & English Placement page to learn more about how to take these assessments.

How do I find my placement levels?

Placement scores determine your starting point for math and English and are found in the CatTracks app under “Student Information” at the top of the Degree Evaluation page. Math and English placement Levels can also be found listed on your admission letter to WSU.

Time Commitment

Foundations Learning Communities offer both full-time and part-time schedules to best meet your availability. Your course load as a Foundations student depends on your needs. For your first two semesters, your Foundations Advisor will build your schedule with you and help you register for classes to achieve your educational dreams sooner.

How many classes can I enroll in?

A general rule in college is that for every one credit hour you are enrolled in, you will spend approximately two to three hours outside of class studying.

For example: 3 credit hours = 3 hours in class per week = 6–9 hours of study/homework time.

Full-time students enroll in 12-18 hours, and part-time students enroll in 1-11 credit hours per semester.

Foundations Learning Communities Schedule

Unsure what you want to major in? No problem! Foundations Learning Communities have built-in career exploration opportunities to help you identify your academic and career goals.

Your first two semesters as a Foundations student are purposefully structured to help you complete English and math requirements faster while taking classes that count towards graduation. You will skip over developmental math and English courses.

Visit our Foundations Learning Communities website to find out which classes are available to build a solid foundation in your first year as a Foundations student.
