Mercedes Ziegler

President

I graduated from Weber State University in 2017, during which time I served as a Safe@Weber Student Leader. I’m now at the WSU Women’s Center as the Violence Prevention Coordinator, teaching faculty, staff, and students about healthy relationships, consent, and more. My bachelor’s degree is in political science with a minor in women and gender studies, and I’ll graduate with a Master of Professional Communication in December 2023. I love advocacy and social justice, and in my off time I enjoy reading, writing, kickboxing and spending time with loved ones.

Anna Burleson

While my job is working on Weber State's website, I wear many hats including writer, editor, communicator, strategizer and more. My background is in journalism and I've been at Weber State since May 2020 where I've played a role in our COVID-19 communications and web presence, annual strategic plan updates and general university communications. I've also developed university-wide web best practices training and continuously do my best to maintain hundreds of web pages on weber.edu. Including this one.

Jill Walker

I have worked for Weber State University since 2007. I hold a BS in Health Promotion and a MA in English Literature, both from Weber State. My roles at the university have included Digital Collections in the Stewart Library, and several years as a First Year Experience instructor. My current role with Alumni Relations gives me the opportunity to engage with and celebrate the accomplishments of WSU's graduates. This is my second year serving on the WSU Chapter of UWHEN Board of Directors, and I hope my efforts will continue to support the progression of Weber State University.

I am interested in taking a leading role in the WSU UWHEN Chapter because I believe in the value our chapter will bring to the women who engage in and attend the events the WSU chapter will sponsor in the future. As UWHEN Treasurer, I will use my accounting skills to ensure we are good stewards of the funds we are entrusted with. My goal is to work together with the UWHEN network to uplift and elevate each other as we engage in meaningful ways.

Mylynn Felt

WSU Institutional Representative

I am an instructor with the Department of Communication. I earned a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English with a minor in Communication from Southern Utah University. I worked in Student Services as a Residence Hall Director for Weber State while completing my Master of Education there, focusing on curriculum design and instruction. I then worked as a high school English teacher for ten years in Davis County and two years in northern Montana. I completed a Master of Arts in Communication and Cultural Studies at the University of Calgary, publishing research on news coverage of cyberbullying. My Ph.D. was also earned at the University of Calgary, in Communication and Media Studies. My dissertation research focuses on civic activism through social media to combat gender-based violence. I have published research in journals such as Information, Communication & Society; Big Data & Society; and the Canadian Journal of Communication, as well as a book chapter in Gendered Violence at International Festivals. Within my community, I serve as Vice President for the Friends of the Weber/Morgan Children's Justice Center, a non-profit that serves child-victims of crime.

Jessica Kokesh

I joined Weber State University as its social media editor during the most interesting and challenging year possible, 2020. I manage WSU’s main social media accounts, and advise university departments and personnel on the ever-evolving world of social media and digital marketing. I cut my teeth on social media marketing during a decade-long career in journalism, where I worked for local newspapers in South Dakota, Nebraska and Utah. My bachelor’s degree is in Contemporary Media and Journalism with a minor in women’s studies, and I plan to graduate with my Master of Professional Communication from Weber State in fall 2024.

Tammy Nguyen

I am the Executive Director for Access & Inclusion at Weber State University, where I just completed my first year at the institution. I hold a bachelor of science degree in Behavioral Health and Science, a bachelor of science degree in Psychology, a master's degree in Public Administration, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and policy. I have worked in numerous positions on college campuses in areas such as Academic Advising, Orientation, Degree Audits and Curriculum, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. In my current position, I am working on creating five cultural centers: Black, Hispanic & Latino, Native American, Pasifika, and Pan-Asian, and manage programs that help high school-age students find a pathway to college and helps them transition to college. I also teach Social Issues in Higher Education to first-year students and Current Issues in Higher Education to master students. I am passionate about helping students find a pathway to college and helping them succeed once they get here. I continue to advocate for underrepresented student populations and works to make the campus a more inclusive environment for students, staff and faculty.
