Sustainability Coordinator | AmeriCorps Member 

Gain professional experience in the sustainability field, by becoming a Sustainability Coordinator at Weber State University’s Sustainability Practices and Research Center (SPARC). You will have the opportunity to work directly with our community, as an AmeriCorps member.

This position is primarily responsible for coordinating the Intermountain Sustainability Summit (ISS) and our community engagement programs, such as  Empower Northern Utah (ENU).  The ISS helps to educate, inspire, inform and connect sustainability professionals and emerging leaders from across Utah. The ENU program serves to increase sustainability and conservation efforts especially in underserved populations. Additionally, the Sustainability Coordinator will assist with educational events focused on sustainability for students and the general public.

Primary Duties:

Assist in planning and hosting the Intermountain Sustainability Summit:

  • Assist with planning partner coordination meetings
  • Assist with logistics from room and AV set up to travel arrangements
  • Help to identify, enroll, select, and coordinate speakers
  • Assist to coordinate workshops, the Eco Expo, and student poster contest
  • Co-create clear instructions for speakers, participants, exhibitors, and students
  • Manage event registration
  • Co-create a welcoming atmosphere for all ISS attendees, speakers, and exhibitors
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers, moderators, and poster judges

Serve as the primary coordinator for Empower Northern Utah community program:

  • Plan and implement a community program, with a focus on underserved communities
  • Coordinate with community partners
  • Help envision and implement additional community programs (if applicable)
  • Update website, registration, and scheduling information for the program
  • Host and coordinate pick up events with partner organizations

Additional Duties:

  • Assist in creating marketing materials, websites, and social media content
  • Recruit, coordinate, and manage volunteers utilizing GivePulse
  • Track, manage, and analyze data in excel spreadsheets
  • If additional time, host other sustainability and environmental related events

AmeriCorps Requirements:

This position is made possible by the AmeriCorps program (think PeaceCorps, but located in, and serving within the U.S.)

  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • At least age 18 by the start of service term
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must undergo and pass a National Criminal History check
  • Eligible to serve in an AmeriCorps State/National term
  • Commitment to completing the Term of Service (start date-end date)

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science/Studies, Communications, Geography, Political Science, Public Policy, Environmental Education, or closely related field
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Project management skills
  • Passion for sustainability and education/outreach work
  • Event coordination experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A valid driver's license
  • A positive and professional manner with diverse populations
  • Team player
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Google Drive
  • Social media skills
  • Website content editing skills

Compensation:

This is a 1700 hour AmeriCorps position, which comes with these benefits:

  • $30,000 living allowance (paid in even disbursements throughout term of service) for first term AmeriCorps members
  • $6,495 education award (available to members after successful service term) 
  • Federal student loan forbearance and workers comp for all members
  • Child care and insurance benefits
