Earth Day! 
The 52nd celebration of our planet is quickly approaching! Statewide, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality is encouraging Utah residents to use recycled materials to construct a poster showing what you love about Utah and/or Earth to be shared on their social media pages. Other events across the state are giving the opportunity to participate in the celebration!
Ogden Nature Center will be hosting an Earth Day Festival on April 22nd from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. This will inclde birdhouse exhibitions, Earth Day art, and nature poetry shared along the trails!
An Earth Day Service Project will be taking place at This is The Place State Park in Salt Lake City from 9:00 am - 11:00 am on April 22nd, a clean-up event hosted by Life Style Real Estate Team. Bring some good shoes and gardening equipment, and eat some donuts while caring for the space!
If you are looking for an event that you can participate in from home, take a look at the video footage of Weber State's Climate Teach-In Event! Compiled of four 50-minute sessions, professors from all over campus came to share how their field will be impacted by climate change and the possible solutions.
You can also check out the virtual Earth Day Workshop hosted by hEr VOLUTION Ambassador, Sarah Ribey. This seminar will introduce a range of climate cycles, and help participants calculate their carbon footprint and brainstorm ideas to reduce their impact!
Weber Sustainability is planning our annual tree planting event for April 20th, but it may be postponed due to the recent weather. Keep an eye on the Environmental Ambassodors GivePulse and the Sustainability Events Calendar for updates. Partnered with WSU Landscapers, we will be planting trees all around campus!
Sustainability Awards
Join the Energy & Sustainability Office and the Sustainability Practices and Research Center on April 13th, 2023 from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm in the Shepherd Union Ballroom BC. This annual ceremony is a great opportunity to learn more about current and future sustainability plans at WSU and to celebrate those who accomplished sustainability milestones from Fall 2022 – Spring 2023.

Make sure to find courses listed with the SUS Attribute! This attribute indicates that the coursework addresses sustainability, broadly defined, in some way. A course may focus on a vast array of issues, topics, and approaches in environmental, social, and/or economic aspects of sustainability.
This attribute is attatched to courses ranging from economics to healthcare! With over 25 registered summer courses there is an option for everyone! Be sure to find something that best suits you and your goals towards becoming a sustainability master.
Meet Our Newest Members!
Environmental Compliance Intern, Seth Anderson
Seth Anderson is an environmental science major here at Weber State. He conducts many of the stormwater inspections on campus and is actively involved in the sustainability clubs. You can find him rock climbing, snowboarding, playing sports, and doing just about anything outdoors!
Food Recovery Network Coordinator, Allison Brown
Allison Brown is a freshman at Weber State majoring in geology and harbors a love and curiosity for the natural world. Allison enjoys hiking, reading, doing yoga, thrifting, and spending time with loved ones. We are thrilled to have her as a new part of the ESO Team, and can't wait to see her thrive in her new position!
Administrative Assistant, George Michael Edwards III
George Michael Edwards III (Michael) is a sophomore majoring in musical theatre. He loves dungeons and dragons, singing and dancing, and general rumpus and ruin. He has a large passion for sustainability and spending time with nature. We are excited to have him in the SPARC Office!
Interested in Joining the WSU Sustainability Team?
As many of our current members are nearing graduation (congrats!), there will be a number of positions opening between the Energy and Sustainability Office (ESO), as well as the Sustainability Practices and Research Center (SPARC)! Current open positions include:
- SPARC Student Sustainability Communications Coordinator
- In charge of community and campus outreach, this position requires proficient writing skills and ability to positively engage with the public and fellow students! A fun role in charge of promoting sustainability events, organizing the monthly newsletter, and running the WSU Sustainability social media accounts, this position will help students develop communication and outreach skills.
- ESO Environmental Ambassador President
- Leader of the Sustainability Clubs, this position is responsible for event planning and coordination, coming up with annual project ideas, and peer-to-peer education! Valuble skills would include public speaking, proficient writing skills, and a great enthusiasm for getting students involved in sustainability events all over campus!
- SPARC AmeriCorps Sustainability Coordinator
- A full-time service position, perfect for recent graduates! This positition is primarily responsible for planning the Intermountain Sustainability Summit. This includes event planning tasks such as communication with event participants, organizing catering and equipment services, writing monthly newsletters, and helping promote the event through social media pages. This position is also the primary contact for the Empower Northern Utah Program and aids in participant communication, organizing pick-up events, and promoting the program to target demographics.
- SPARC Student Sustainability Coordinator
- This position helps in a broad range of things within the SPARC Office. Core focuses include event planning for the annual Intermountain Sustainability Summit, organizing the Student Poster Contest, and coordinating the Empower Northern Utah Community Program! Data collection and reporting is also an important part of this role, giving students a well rounded experience in all aspects of the standard non-profit and community development work environment.
