Venice, Italy

Program Details

The program will consist of visits to art-historical sites throughout the city, including a day-trip to Padua where participants will see the work of Giotto and his frescoes in the Arena Chapel. Extensive time will be spent at the Venice Biennale, one of the premier exhibitions of contemporary art from around the world. As host city for the Biennale, Venice is a unique resource for art, providing access to the historical art of the highest importance.

  • Open to Weber State graduates and the community
  • Participants must read, speak, and understand English

Cost

Cost: $2,999.00 (Airfare Not Included)

Includes: Apartment room (shared bathroom per two rooms); Biennale pass; week Vaporetto pass; train tickets to/from Padova; group museum and church entrances; first and last nights’ dinner; lunch with WSU students in Padova.

Not Included: Airfare; airport transfers via Alilaguna; other transportation; meals (other than above)

Trip Cancellations

If the trip is canceled, all participants will be refunded. Any refunds for withdrawals from the program will be determined by the Study Abroad Director according to the recoverability of incurred costs and fees and according to the Continuing Education Policy. Once the group leaves all costs are non-refundable in their entirety. Dates & process may change. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of any such changes by staying in contact with the program director.

Itinerary

June 19th: Arrive and get settled; neighborhoods orientation; dinner
June 20th: Morning: Walking; San Marco/Doges Palace; lunch; purchase Vaporetto passes; visit Biennale at Giardini in the afternoon via Vaporetto (opens at 10 am and closes at 6 pm).
June 21st: Morning: Biennale at Arsenale; free afternoon (photography, drawing, etc.)
June 22nd: Padova (all day): Cappella degli Scrovegni – Giotto fresco cycle; lunch.
June 23rd: Morning: Galleria dell Academia; afternoon: Punta della Dogana; Peggy Guggenheim collection.
June 24th: Lagoon islands: Murano, then St. Erasmo or Torcello (islands), lunch and maybe dinner. If Torcello, visit Santa Maria Assunta).
June 25th: Morning: Church artworks with Matt Choberka; Afternoon: other Biennale events; Dinner with WSU travel study students.
June 26th: Morning: Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Frari; San Polo and Dorsoduro; Afternoon: other Biennale events
June 27th: Morning: Return to exhibitions and events as needed; afternoon: free time. Farewell dinner.
June 28th: Pack and depart
