France and Germany

Program Details

The MBA Program has not yet traveled to Exuador and Peru, which are increasingly important economies with business cultures and practices that represent Latin America. Through readings, on-site activities and an intergrated learning case on Ecuador's cut-flower industry, a study trip to these countries offers a unique experience which supports the GSBE & MBA program learning outcomes. The cut-flower industry learning case will allow students to experience and follow the global supply chain that links Ecuadorian rose growers to local retailers in Utah, and thereby build student understanding of global business, international trade, competitive advantage of nations, and supply chain management.

Pay deposit and all payments to the Hurst Center for Lifelong Learning in person or pay over the phone with a credit card at (801) 626-6600. Please, do not pay on campus, all payments need to be made at the Hurst Center.

Itinerary

May 2016: Pre-trip Orientation (covering both logistics and academic content)
June 7th: Depart from SLC–direct flight to Paris.
June 8th: Arrive in Paris–check in.
June 9th: Business visit and sightseeing in Paris.
June 10th: Business visit & sightseeing in Paris.
June 11th: Sightseeing in Paris.
June 12th: Train trip to Frankfurt, Germany. Arrive & check in.
June 13th: Visit the ECB & Business visit.
June 14th: Company visit, trip to Hof.
June 15th: Hof Business visits.
June 15th: Trip to Munich or Zurich.
June 17th: Business visits.
June 19th: Sightseeing.
June 19th: Return trip from Munich or Zurich.
July 2016: De-briefing session (one evening class session).

Program Directors

Matthew Mouritsen, Professor of Accounting & MBA Program Director. Teaching experience, research, and PhD are based in information technology and accounting. Responsibile for course proposal, syllabus development, Canvas, social media site updates, and a majority of the assessment of students follwing the trip.

Shane Schvaneveldt, Progessor in Business Administration with teaching and research experience in the area of supply chain management and sustainability. Shane has significant international business experience. Responsible for trip logistics, planning learning activities and business, cultural,and geographical visits in Ecuador and Peru. Will develop a learning activity centered upon the cut-flower industry and will assess students' performance.

Trip Cancellations

If the trip is canceled, all participants will be refunded. Any refunds for withdrawals from the program will be determined by the Study Abroad Director according to the recoverability of incurred costs and fees and according to the Continuing Education Policy. Once the group leaves all costs are non-refundable in their entirety. Dates & process may change. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of any such changes by staying in contact with the program director.
