Theatre and Design: London, Bath, and Paris

Program Details

In these courses, students will create research portfolios that will demonstrate the value of studying extant fashion, art, and architecture for the creation of dynamic theatre design. Students will also have the opportunity to experience live theatre in London and opera in Paris, which will enhance their repertoire and knowledge of contemporary theatre and historical venues (i.e., the Globe Theatre and the Paris Opera House). This is an immersive program, and in two cities of historic and contemporary import which enhances and sharpens the educational experience.

Selection Criteria:

Participants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be a high school graduate or above.
  • Participants seeking academic credit for the program must be able to read the required text and participate in discussions.

$3000 (Airfare Not Included)

Suggested Payment Schedule (This does not need to be followed exactly. It is a guide so you do not have to pay so much at the end, but you can pay as much or as little as you want so long as the trip is paid in full before you leave):

Must be paid in full prior to trip departure 

All payments must be made through the Hurst Center, NOT at the main cashier's office. Payment can be made in person, or over the phone at (801) 626-6600. The Hurst Center is located on the south side of campus next to the Alumni Center.

Includes: insurance, tuition, lodging, domestic transportation, entrance fees for planned excursions and theatre tickets.

NOT included: your airfare, passport, incidentals, excess baggage costs, any unscheduled travel, and all meals.

Itinerary

Day 0: Travel from USA

Day 1: Meet in London, travel by private coach to Bath via Salisbury Cathedral and Stonehenge.

Day 2: Bath

Day 3: Bath and travel to Paris

Days 4-10: Paris

Day 11: travel from Paris to London

Days 12- 18: London

Day 19: travel home

 

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to five (5) semester credits through Weber State University in THEA 4920 (3) and THEA 4002 (2).

Program Directors

Professor Catherine Zublin, professor of Theatre Arts and Costume Designer will teach both THEA 4920 Theatre Arts- Short Course and THEA 4002 Special Studies in Theatre. She has taught similar topics in a variety of other classes including, Costume History, costume Design, Design Seminar and Introduction to Theatre. This will be the fifth time the THEATRE & DESIGN: LONDON, BATH & PARIS program is being offered. czublin@weber.edu

Professor Andrew Barratt Lewis, Assistant Professor of Theatre: Musical Theatre will assist with both THEA 4920 Theatre Arts- Short Course and THEA 4002 Special Studies in Theatre. He has taught similar topics in a variety of other classes including Musical Theatre History, Introduction to Theatre, and Performance Seminar. andrewlewis@weber.edu

Trip Cancellations

If Weber State cancels a trip for any reason, all participants will be refunded 100% of funds paid to the school. If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, they are subject to the refund policy found on the first page of the application.  Deposits are always non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Weber State.  No refunds will be issued 30 days prior to program start date. 

Refunds will NOT be given to students due to COVID-19 concerns. Before programs were canceled in 2020, every student was given the option to withdraw from programs without penalty due to COVID-19. This year students are applying, cognizant of the pandemic. Weber State will not intentionally place students into high risk situations. We will work together with Program Leaders and Departments on canceling should the destination demonstrate increased risks, be they from COVID or any other concern. As such, students must abide by the standard refund policy.
