Special Populations

Students transitioning from foster care to WSU receive additional advising that helps them to access different funding streams to pay for their post-secondary education. In addition, these students will receive mentoring, close academic monitoring, and can apply for a privately funded scholarship that is specific to WSU.

We encourage anyone who has been in the foster care system to apply for this scholarship, providing that there is documentation showing the students was in state’s custody prior to the age of 18.

Application: former foster care students

We ensure students are assisted with everything from the admissions process, FAFSA, and ensuring students are referred to the right academic programs and academic advising. We work with JJS to receive referrals for students wanting to attend WSU.

We work with non-profits who serve refugee populations, and assist these students with everything from the admissions process, FAFSA, and ensuring they are referred to the right academic programs and academic advising. In addition, we work with these students to help find additional funding to assist them in paying for their education at WSU.

We work with non-profits, government funding, and campus funding to help ensure students who are homeless can find or keep stable housing while completing their education. This can include current students who may find themselves homeless, or referrals we receive from agencies, non-profits, or high schools (seniors transitioning to WSU).
