Iesley Walker

Although thriving in his first year at Weber State, a few short years ago Iesley Walker wasn’t even sure he would finish high school. 

“I was dealing with a lot of loss at that time,” said Walker, referring to the death of his mother. “Slowly but surely, I kept pushing through, and soon I could see myself going to college.”

Initially interested in moving to southern Utah, the Bountiful High School graduate was admitted to Weber State and fell in love with the university following a campus tour. Now Walker, 18, is looking to study business. 

“You can start a business without going to school, but I know my education is going to help me go further,” he said. “I want to be a businessman.” 

Here on scholarship, Walker is taking a full course load while also working a job in retail. He’s part of the Wildcat Scholars program, which offers financial, academic and personal support through the first years of college. 

Walker said he’s enjoying his first semester at Weber: “Everyone is welcoming. I’ve been taking advantage of the tutoring, and just feeling involved in the school. I’m glad to be part of it.”
