Sociology Club Activities
Chapter Club...
Irresistible readings. Imaginative ideas. Intellectual discussion.
We’ve all got plenty of reading to do for the classroom. However, if you can squeeze in one more chapter each month and have some ideas of your own, you’re a perfect candidate for the Chapter Club. We select one chapter from a sociological text and meet monthly to discuss our ideas about it. Join us and flex your intellectual muscles!
Monthly Speakers...
What can you do with a degree in Sociology?
We all have passions about sociology; what we don’t all have is an idea about what to do with them. Once a month the Sociology Club invites a guest speaker, currently working with a sociology degree, to present possible educational and career paths for students. Whether you seek a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. in sociology, we hope to introduce you to some options in line with your sociological aspirations.
Research Projects...
“Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose.”
-Zora Neale Hurston
From conception to execution to dissemination, the Sociology Club is actively involved in research. It is through research that we better understand our world and gain the insights necessary to influence social change. Conducting research on campus also offers members first-hand experience in applying sociological ideas and research methods to studies designed and executed locally, by students.
Research must always have purpose, and the sociology club initiates our investigations with just that. Our purposes in conducting research are to understand social life here on campus, to gain awareness about the issues facing students now, and to communicate our findings to the public on various scales.
The Sociology Club also encourages its members to present research findings through various outlets. Whether presenting on campus, participating in regional conferences, or in submitting a journal manuscript, the club offers excellent resources in making your venture successful.
