1.0  PURPOSE

This policy outlines criteria for staff members to perform University approved community service without utilizing other leave benefits.

2.0 REFERENCE

3.0 DEFINITION

Service Leave - Leave taken during an employee’s normal working hours to participate in voluntary community service opportunities that are made available to all benefits-eligible staff members and that are organized or authorized by the Center for Community Engaged Learning.

4.0 POLICY

4.1 Benefit-eligible staff, as defined in PPM 3-45, are allowed up to eight hours of service leave, which will be prorated on an FTE basis each leave year. 

4.2 The employee must receive pre-approval from their supervisor prior to signing up for and participating in service leave opportunities. 

4.3 The employee will accurately log completed service leave hours through the designated tracking system.
