A Letter for Students Regarding Fall Semester 2020
Whether this upcoming semester is your first semester at Weber State University, your last or anywhere in between, we are excited to welcome you to our campus to kick-off a great year of learning.
For Fall 2020, the Department of Performing Arts looks forward to re-imagining the classroom experience and increasing accessibility to the arts through technology. While it’s true that coronavirus has disrupted the way audiences traditionally experience theatre, music and dance, we commit to using that disruption as a means of innovation.
Faculty and staff have carefully created and redesigned DPA courses to better meet our students’ needs during this time. We offer a variety of delivery models and have stringent safety measures in place for any and all face-to-face meetings. Your professors will contact you by email or through Canvas with more information on what to expect in their classes.
Professionals in theatre, music and dance are adapting the ways in which they deliver their art to audiences. Weber State is doing the same and we are excited to see how students and faculty experiment, develop and create new ways to share their talents.
Student performers will continue to make art, challenge ideas and create connections with our audiences, all while receiving an excellent education in the performing arts and creating professional recordings of their work for their portfolios.
This semester, you will learn new skills that you did not have before.
In addition to performances and showcases, DPA looks forward to presenting panel discussions, new play readings, interactive dance productions and so much more to a wider audience than ever before possible. Students will have more incredible opportunities to tap into the creative minds of professionals in the fields they are studying.
Please reach out if you have any questions. We are excited to see you in August and start a memorable year.
Dr. Jenny Kokai, Chair of the Department of Performing Arts
Dr. Carey Cambell, Music Program Coordinator
Erik Stern, Dance Program Coordinator
Catherine Zublin and Jessica Greenberg, Theatre Program Coordinators
About the Department of Performing Arts:
Weber State University's Department of Performing Arts is comprised of Dance, Music and Theatre. It is large enough to provide the atmosphere and motivation you need to excel, and yet personal enough to enable you to stand out as an individual.
Student dancers, musicians, actors, designers, technicians and teachers learn and train in a creative and supportive environment in Northern Utah's premiere venue, the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts.
The department's combination of Dance, Music, and Theatre encourages collaboration within the department. In addition, each area works with other disciplines across the campus, in the Northern Utah community and around the world.
