Performing Arts Internships

As a performing arts student, you will develop valuable skills that employers want, making you an excellent candidate in the professional world. Internships dramatically improve your ability to network with potential employers and can lead to employment after graduation. To help prepare you for a career, WSU offers several internship opportunities for professional development. Follow the steps below to register for the internship course and start building your resume.

The Department of Performing Arts internship program is voluntary and self-directed, which allows you to complete your internship at a business where you may already be employed to explore your growing skill-set.

Registering for the Internship Course
Students seeking course credit for an internship should do the following:
- Identify an internship Determine how many credit hours you wish to earn (45 hours = 1 credit, 90 hours = 2 credits, 135 hours = 3 credits) Enroll in DANC/MUSC/THEA 4890: Cooperative Experience and Internship
You must begin the internship hours during the semester you registered, but you have a year to complete the course and internship hours. If you don’t complete the internship in the semester you registered, you will receive an incomplete grade on your transcript. However, as soon as you complete the requirements, the incomplete will turn into credit. If the internship was not successfully completed, you will receive no credit.
Course Requirements

All documents related to the internship course are available on Canvas, including the employer contract, which your internship mentor must sign. Once you have found an internship, you and your mentor will list the duties and responsibilities for the internship and sign the employer contract. The internship coordinator must approve the contract and determine whether it is acceptable for academic credit.

Throughout your internship, you are periodically required to report to the internship coordinator and complete assignments, such as a resume, cover letter, writing samples and a final portfolio.
