Employee Learning Week 2023 Class Schedule

This year we are offering over 20 classes for you to explore something new in a variety of areas! Below you will find start times and descriptions for classes throughout the entire week! We have a in-person, online, and hybrid options available. Multiple classes have size limits, so don't delay in signing up for those that are interesting you to you! 

If a class requires supplies, it will be provided to you at no additional charge.

Basic Drawing Without Line


In a one hour session we will look back to the simple principles of light to bring on your future as a wonderful artist. No prior drawing experience needed and supplies provided. (limited to 12)

Starting a Garden: Keys to Success
(Hybrid)


This class covers several keys to successful vegetable gardening, including best practices for converting existing space, soil preparation, irrigation, planning, timing and managing common issues, etc.

Mic Drop: An Intro to Podcasting


Podcasting is a great medium for telling stories, sharing information and educating others. Come learn how to get your podcast started from idea to creation, editing and publishing.

Travel to St. Peter’s Basilica, dismantle a bomb, and even fly through an open city through the modern glass of an Oculus. This drop-in class allows you to explore places, play games, and have experiences only possible through Virtual Reality.

Emotions are the great "smoke alarm" alerting us to vital information. Being able to listen, label, lean into, and explore emotional information is essential to emotional resilience. Come learn how to use emotion as a super-power to guide choices, change thought processes, and catapult  "feelings" into transformational wellness opportunities.

Sara Erickson, Professional Organizer and owner of The Cozy Home Organizing, will teach us practical ways to declutter and organize our homes, and the benefits that simplified spaces have on our mental health.

Learn about writing a personal or family history. How to write about your individual experiences and stories to get down your life story, and why it's important. Taught by a mother/daughter duo.

Astrophotography


Explore the night sky! Learn the basics of night sky photography, including dSLR settings, equipment, and editing. Take a stunning photo of the Milky Way, constellations, moon, and stars, and make it your own!

This class is great for beginners or anyone wanting a practice with gentle standing/kneeling sequences and lots of stretching on the mat!

Overcoming Imposter Syndrome & Setting Ourselves Up for Success

Improving our understanding of Imposter Syndrome helps us better identify its various impacts on our lives and how it gets in the way of setting and achieving our goals. We're not alone in our feelings! Join us to learn more about yourself and overcoming Imposter Syndrome and discuss a variety of strategies to help you along the way.

Let's wrap up Employee Learning Week right! Enjoy a fun madrigal type dinner (complete with a complimentary ELW stein*) while the Saint Joseph Catholic Highschool Drama Team presents a scene from A Midsummer Night's Dream

Do the dog days of summer and water restrictions take a toll on your lawn? Do you wish you had less lawn to mow? Are you worried about all the wasted water from trying to keep your lawn green? Come learn about some great alternatives that are much smarter for our hot and dry Utah weather. This course introduces the exciting field of augmented reality (AR) technology, which enhances our perception of the physical world with virtual information. In this course, participants will learn about the different AR technologies and the basic principles behind AR development. 

Healthy & Homemade


Join WSU Adjunct Hilary Lambert to learn ways to make healthy, truly homemade foods. Inspired by the popular blog 100 days of Real Food, we will cook a few recipes and learn about others that can make eating well and feeding a family healthy foods fun.

Yoga - Vinyasa Flow


This class will inspire the new or experienced yoga student -- true "flow yoga" where we match the breath to our movement and really get flowing!

The Future of Making: An Introduction to 3D Print Design


This course provides an overview of 3D printing technology and its applications in higher education. Participants will learn about the different types of 3D printers and printing materials. Through hands-on exercises and interactive discussions, attendees will gain an understanding of the design process and software used for 3D printing. 

 
 

Family Science Experiments


From tape and string, to goo and slime, you can use everyday objects to make science a hands-on and exciting experience for children of all ages! This class will help you use everyday objects and combine them to lead children through science experiments that explore the five senses. These are tried and true crowd favorites from the Science in the Parks program that will hopefully bring a smile to your face and will help you think about science in a new and fascinating light.

Sky's the Limit: Your Introduction to Drone Flying


This course is designed for staff interested in learning about the basics of drone flying. Participants will learn about the types of drones available, their capabilities, and the safety and regulatory guidelines for flying drones. Additionally, the course will provide hands-on experience with drone piloting, allowing participants to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to operate drones safely in a controlled environment.

Want to step up your cake decorating game? Come learn the basics! You will learn how to frost a cake, do basic borders and decorations, and how to write like a pro. Let's decorate!
