Backcountry Touring
Dates: January 24 | February 14, 2026
Timing: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. - carpool from the Outdoor Program

Transportation: Provided
WSU Students: $40 || WSU Faculty Staff: $50 || General Public: $75
Skill Level: Advanced skiers only! You must be able to ski variable snow conditions on slopes as steep as 40 degrees. (Black Diamond Runs at local ski resorts)
Fitness Level: Intermediate to advanced
Equipment Provided: Avalanche safety equipment will be provided at no cost. Bring your own touring set-up, or rent in advance (Please don't keep the group waiting, come prepared). If you need equipment call us at 801-626-6373 or visit the Rental Shop.
Equipment List: Alpine touring ski set up/split board/telemark skis, skins, beacon, probe, shovel.
Details:
Join the Outdoor Program for a day of touring in the Ogden backcountry. We will earn our turns by hiking up and skiing/riding a great backcountry descent. This program is designed to introduce you to the basic concepts of ski touring/split boarding from how to use your skins, setting appropriate skin tracks, learning kick turns, and begin discussions on avalanche awareness. This day will offer you amazing views and a descent in a pristine backcountry environment.
