Scouting: Award and Badge Programs Offered by Ott Planetarium

Astronomy Badge for Boy Scouts

Our Astronomy Badge program is done in two parts: Part 1 is done online, and Part 2 is done in the planetarium.

• Boy Scouts MUST complete Part 1 before coming to the Planetarium.  This includes watching the videos, taking the quiz and printing out the completed quiz with the Boy Scout's name and troop number on it.  To begin Part 1, use the Drop-Down menu at the top of this page in the Scouts heading.

Reservations and a base fee of $80 are required for Part 2.

The program is between 1.5 to 2 hours, and there is an $80 minimum for the program.  This cost covers 16 attendees that are not leaders.  Any additional attendees are $5 each.  Leaders are free.

Attendees include:

  • Scouts
  • Parents
  • Siblings
  • Friends
  • any others who are not leaders

NOVA Out Of This World Award and other awards for Cub Scouts

  • We have a NOVA Out Of This World program for Cub Scouts. This can take between 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • We present information for Cub Scouts to be able to earn this award after they complete part 1 of the requirements before they complete part 2 of the requirements at the Ott Planetarium.  The section below is from Scouting.org and must be completed before Scouts arrive for the NOVA program at Ott Planetarium.
"2. Complete ONE adventure from the following list for your current rank or complete option A or B. (Choose an Adventure you have not already earned.) Discuss with your counselor what kind of science, technology, engineering, and math was used in the adventure or option.
Option A: .... (a) Demonstrate how to focus a simple telescope or binoculars. (A local astronomy club may be a resource for this activity.)"

We are pleased to recommend the Ogden Astronomical Society to help with this requirement.
