School of Performing Arts Scholarships
Students must complete an application form for all departmental scholarships.
Fern Berglund Scholarship
Requirements: Scholarship awarded annually. No specific criteria.Fern Berglund was an avid patron of the arts. She loved music, theater, and other performing arts. She spent her life serving others, as well as working as the private secretary to Secretary of State Cordell Hull in Washington D.C.
Sophie Wetherell Reed Memorial Scholarship
Requirements: Full-time student with a GPA of at least 3.0. Outstanding performer in one or more of the areas of performing arts.Sophie Wetherell Reed was the premier dance teacher in Weber County for many years and taught hundreds of students. She also had a love for drama and music. Her daughter, Sophie Reed Richards, established the scholarship in memory of her mother.
Joseph and Ellen Eccles Scholarship
Requirements: Declared major in visual arts, performing arts, or literature and have a minimum GPA of 2.5Anya Kenley Scholarship for the Arts
Requirements: Declared major in the department and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.This award was established by Julie Kenley in remembrance of her daughter, Anya, who was 16 years old when she died of lymphoma. Anya was an accomplished dancer, musician, and writer.
John and Telitha Lindquist Scholarship for Creative/Artistic Endeavors
Requirements: Scholarship available to students who demonstrate talent in arts or humanities at the high school or university levels and exhibit academic ability.This scholarship is intended to enrich the social, cultural, and artistic climate of the university by funding scholarships which support creative and artistic efforts by students.
Lujean Thompson Scholarship
Requirements: Declared major in the performing arts with a minimum GPA of 3.0. -
Music Scholarships
Jacob Grant College Student Scholarship
Requirements: Must be a highschool senior or undergraduate student. Students will be required to submit an essay to be considered for this scholarship.Presser Foundation Scholarship
Requirements: Declared major in music at or end of junior year with minimum GPA of 3.5.This national scholarship was established by the Theodore Presser Music Publishing Company. Supported by the Presser Foundation, only a few universities are given the opportunity of awarding this scholarship. The "Presser Scholar" is a nationally recognized title of honor.
Cannonball Music Scholarship
Requirements: Full-time, declared major in music with an emphasis in any instrument with a minimum GPA of 3.5.Dennis & Kristine Read Scholarship
Requirements: Instrumental music major with a minimum GPA of 3.0.Dennis is a WSU alumnus. Although Dennis graduated from BYU, he and his wife Kristine provide this award out of loyalty to his favorite school and their mutual love of music.
Elizabeth Dee Shaw Stewart Music Scholarship
Requirements: Must be a junior or senior majoring in music education or pedagogy with a minimum GPA of 3.2.Elizabeth Stewart’s trust, upon her death, established an endowment for music scholarships and equipment, which includes this scholarship.
Dr. Mack Wilberg Composition Scholarship
Requirements: Declared major in music performance, music pedagogy or music education with a minimum GPA of 3.2.Provided by Alan and Jeanne Hall, this scholarship honors Mack Wilberg, music director for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It is intended to continue Willberg’s legacy of leadership, mentoring, professional integrity, ethics, drive, commitment to community, and artistic excellence in the area of music composition.
Mary N. Hill Scholarship
Requirements: Declared major in music with a minimum GPA of 2.75.This scholarship honors the life, accomplishments and legacy ofMary Nelson Hill. The intent of this scholarship is to provide assistance to students making significant changes to their personal life trajectory.

Requirements: Declared music major or minor with a minimum GPA of 2.5. -
Strings/Orchestra
Jetta Barker Farr Memorial Scholarship
Requirements: Band or orchestra member with financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0.This scholarship was established by the children of Jetta Barker Farr in memory of their mother.
Reed and Maggie F. Gammell Scholarship
Requirements: Orchestra Student with a minimum GPA of 3.0.This award was established by the Keith family in honor of Viva May Keith’s mother, who taught her how to play the organ and helped her find a love for music.
Kenneth and Hope Burton Memorial Cello Scholarship
Requirements: Must be taking classes and private lessons in cello at WSU with a minimum GPA of 3.0.This scholarship was established by Jeffry R and Linda G. Burton to assist outstanding cello students in making meaningful progress in cello mastery and in achieving their goals to give life-long service to their communities through inspiring cello performance.
August Molzer Memorial Scholarship
Requirements” String area music major at the 3000 level or above with a minimum GPA of 3.0.Michael A. Palumbo established the August Molzer Memorial Scholarship in honor of his grandfather, a concert violinist and teacher who inspired him to pursue a career in music.

Requirements: Awarded on an annual basis. Students must be enrolled full time at WSU with a minimum GPA of 2.5. -
Piano/Organ
Gene Funk Hillyard Memorial Piano Scholarship
Requirements: Awarded annually to a full-time declared major in keyboard pedagogy or performance with a minimum GPA of 3.0.Randall Hillyard established this scholarship upon the death of his wife, Gene, who loved music and played and taught piano.
Mona Smith Memorial Scholarship
Requirements: Assist students in music, particularly piano, with a minimum GPA of 3.2.Mona Smith was Elizabeth Stewart's Piano teacher. This scholarship was established in memory of Mona Smith and was funded by Elizabeth Dee Shaw Stewart with the expressed indication that a perpetual fund would be established in Mona Smith's name.
Rick and Karen Fairbanks Scholarship
Requirements: Full-time, declared major in keyboard performance or pedagogy with a minimum GPA of 2.5.Rick and Karen Fairbanks provide this scholarship to support and encourage talented music students. The Fairbanks live in Ogden and are proud to support the Ogden and Weber State University community.

Requirements: Declared major in keyboard performance or pedagogy with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to full time students.Mary P. Urie established this scholarship to support students in their pursuit of music education.

Preference may be given to students who have taken lessons and demonstrated high proficiency in organ or vocal/choral students who also excel in choral conducting.Provided by Alan and Jeanne Hall, this scholarship honors Richard Elliott, Principal Organist for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It is intended to continue Elliott’s legacy of leadership, mentoring, professional integrity, ethics, drive, commitment to community and artistic excellence in the area of keyboard studies.
Gladys Minnoch Wilson Scholarship
Requirements: Offered to students studying organ. No GPA requirement.This scholarship was established by Marian Robertson Wilson in memory of her late husband W. Keith Wilson. The scholarship is named after his first wife who was a pianist and organist.
David and Ruth Toller Scholarship
Requirements: Full-time, declared major in keyboard performance or pedagogy with a minimum GPA of 2.5.Piano Excellence Scholarship
Requirements: Full-time, declared major in keyboard performance or keyboard pedagogy with minimum 3.5 GPA.The Piano Excellence Scholarship is offered to help dedicated students excel in music. Through this gift, the Wasdens honor talent and dedication to the arts, underscore the value of education, serve as a role model for students, and encourage others to emulate their leadership.

Jetta Barker Farr Memorial Scholarship
Requirements: This scholarship is awarded to one band and one orchestra member in financial need who is a music major with a minimum GPA of 3.0.This scholarship was established by the children of Jetta Barker Farr in memory of their mother.
J. Ray and Loraine C. Barrios Music Scholarship
Requirements: Student trumpet player with a minimum GPA of 3.0.This scholarship honors Ray Barrios for his lifetime love of music and trumpet playing. This legacy to Ray reflects his belief in the importance of education and developing the natural inner strengths of individuals.

Choral/Vocal
Igor Gorin Scholarship
Requirements: Choral student with a minimum GPA of 3.0.Mary, the wife of Igor Gorin, established this award in memory of her husband, the nationally known tenor, who had the lead in the Utah Pioneer Pageant, "All Faces West."
Roland C. Parry Memorial Scholarship
Requirements: Junior or senior vocal major with a minimum GPA of 3.0.This scholarship is provided by the family of the long-time professor of music, Roland Parry, who enjoyed his role as concertmaster and orchestra director. He composed many scores, and is the author of "All Faces West,” the Mormon Pioneer Pageant.
Dr. Craig Jessop Vocal Scholarship
Requirements: Full-time, declared major in vocal performance, vocal pedagogy or choral music education with a minimum GPA of 3.2.Provided by Alan and Jeanne Hall, this scholarship honors Dr. Craig Jessop, former music director for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The scholarship is intended to continue Jessop’s legacy of leadership, mentoring, professional integrity, ethics, drive, commitment to community and artistic excellence in the area of vocal/choral studies.
