Associate of Science to Master of Science in Respiratory Therapy

Earn your MSRT within three years, from admission to graduation.

While other universities offer only an associate’s degree in respiratory therapy, an increasing number of employers are hiring respiratory therapists with a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Weber State’s AS to MSRT program simplifies the transition to baccalaureate and graduate studies for those with an Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy and a registered respiratory therapist (RRT) credential.

What You’ll Learn

Bachelor’s degree courses will cover:

Diseases of the heart and lungs
Equipment used in respiratory therapy
Drugs as therapeutic agents
Administration of medical gases
Artificial ventilation techniques
Diagnostic procedures
Life support
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

You’ll also learn to treat patients for asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pneumonia.

While earning your master’s degree, you’ll be able to select one of the following concentrations:

Health administrative services
Education
Research

What You Can Do with Your Degree

With your bachelor’s degree, you’ll be prepared to become a certified respiratory therapist (CRT).

While earning your MSRT, you’ll gain skills to advance your career as a consultant, researcher, educator, team leader or administrator.

How to Apply

To be accepted, you must:

Complete your Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy at a regionally accredited institution (or WSU-accepted equivalent)
Become a registered respiratory therapist (RRT)

If you meet the criteria, you’ll receive conditional acceptance to our MSRT program based on completing the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program during your first year. Once you complete the bachelor’s degree requirements, you’ll matriculate into the MSRT program.

If you do not meet acceptance requirements at the end of your first year, you will be advised to complete undergraduate courses to earn your bachelor’s degree, but MSRT acceptance will not be guaranteed.
