Cardiac Specialist

The student choosing the Cardiac Specialist emphasis will acquire the knowledge and clinical skills necessary for a career in the cardiac cath lab. The invasive cardiovascular specialist student will develop analytical thinking skills and research capability while studying a wide range of disciplines, including coronary and structural heart disease, multimodality cardiac imaging, and interventional cardiac catheterization.

Students will learn from a multidisciplinary team including cardiologists, nurses and technologists while assisting with cath lab procedures such as angiography, hemodynamic assessment, coronary stenting, and valve implantation.  Upon completion of the program students will meet the qualification criteria defined by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) for the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) exam and/or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for the Cardiac-Interventional Radiography (CI) credential.

Graduates of an accredited baccalaureate academic program in health science (includes, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing) are eligible to apply.

How to Apply

Prospective students are responsible to identify a preceptor who will work with them during the program. A signed agreement form by the clinical-practice site and preceptor (registered technologist, supervisor, or licensed physician) will need to be submitted with the online application.
