Application Instructions
Requirements
- Applicants must complete their bachelor’s degree before enrollment in the MSCE program. (Note: students may apply for the MSCE program and take up to two master’s level courses before completing their bachelor’s degree.)
- Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better from the undergraduate program in which the bachelor’s degree is earned. However, this requirement may be waived for students whose GPA for their last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate work is sufficiently high.
- GRE scores are required for all applicants except those with an ABET-accredited engineering bachelor's degree or a 3.2 GPA or higher in a prior STEM degree*. Scores will be used to make admission decisions but no specific minimum score is required. For information about taking the GRE, go to https://www.ets.org/gre
- International applicants must have a minimum internet-based TOEFL score of 79 (with a minimum of 17 in each category) or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each category).
- International applicants must have their foreign credentials evaluated. You must also have your foreign credentials evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation company. Visit our International Student & Scholar Center website for a list of approved companies.
- Applicants must supply resumes (or CVs) and unofficial copies of their transcripts at the time of application.
Procedure
- Applications must be completed online - please follow the instructions on the application page. You may save the application and log in later to edit it before the final submission. Each application must be accompanied by a $60 (U.S.) application fee ($95 for international / non-U.S. resident applicants). This may be paid with a credit card using the online application form.
- Applicants must include the name(s) of any post-secondary school they have attended, including the dates of attendance, degree(s) earned (or expected), and GPA.
- Applicants must supply resumes and unofficial copies of their (bachelor's degree) transcripts in .pdf format.
- U.S. applicants must supply official transcripts from all institutions associated with their bachelor’s degrees. Official transcripts should be sent directly from the institutions in question to the WSU Engineering Department (address below). Transcripts may also be sent from the applicant if they are in their original, sealed envelopes. Official transcripts from Weber State University are not required for students who provide a W-number in their online application.
- International applicants must supply a course-by-course evaluation of their (bachelor's degree) transcripts prepared by a foreign credential evaluation company. For a list of approved companies, see https://www.naces.org. The report should be sent directly from the evaluation company to the WSU Engineering Department (address below), but it may also be sent from the applicant if it is in its original, sealed envelope.
- GRE scores* (and, for international students, TOEFL scores) should be sent directly to Weber State University (ETS code 4941) at msece@weber.edu.
Applicants are responsible for submitting a complete application. If your application is incomplete at the time of submission, it will be held until the missing items are submitted. Applicants may log on to their application portal to check which elements of their applications have been received.
Leveling Courses
After being accepted, students who have not graduated from an ABET-accredited Computer Engineering program will be required to show competency in the following areas:
- Microelectronic Circuits (ECE 3110).
- Systems and Signals (ECE 3210).
- Digital Systems (ECE 3610).
- Data Structures and Algorithms (CS 2420).
- Computer Architecture (CS 2810).
- Operating Systems (CS 3100)
- Probability and Statistics (MATH 3410)
- Linear Algebra and Differential Equations (MATH 2250 or both MATH 2270 and MATH 2280)
Competency in these areas may be demonstrated by taking and passing the courses listed above with a grade of C or better. Students who have gained competency through industrial experience may be allowed to demonstrate it by taking and passing a competency exam.
Graduate Application - Transcripts and Test Scores
Graduate Applicants - send official transcripts of your academic record from all previous colleges or universities attended should be submitted along with any required test scores. For the fastest and most efficient transcript ordering experience, please order your official transcripts online through the National Student Clearinghouse. Please request these documents to be sent directly to the Masters of Science Electrical Engineering Admissions Committee at msece@weber.edu.
If a college or university does not provide this option, request the official transcripts be sent directly to you, then forward them UNOPENED in their original sealed envelope to the admissions office address.

Application Deadlines
Applicants wishing to start in the Fall Semester must complete their applications on or before the first Friday in March. Applicants wishing to start in the Spring Semester must complete their applications on or before the first Friday in October.
Applicants who have not yet been admitted to the program may, with departmental permission, take up to two courses that will count toward their degree.
Please note that we do not admit applicants on a rolling basis. Completed applications are considered by the Admissions Committee only at meetings after each application deadline.
