Microbiology's Influence is Huge

Microscopic living organisms, bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa, have a profound influence on our daily lives, including our health, food, fuel, and the environment.

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms including, bacteria, viruses, algae, fungi and protozoa. Microorganisms are most famous for their ability to cause disease, however, microorganisms are also vital to agriculture, industry and ecology. In fact, life on Earth would not survive without microorganisms.

Microbiology is an interdisciplinary science, overlapping aspects of several other academic branches such as chemistry, botany, zoology, physiology, genetics, medicine, nutrition and environmental science.

In addition to traditional microbiology, microbiologists may also study aspects of molecular genetics, cancer, public health, environmental quality, and food production and safety.

You will like Microbiology if...

♦ You want excellent preparation for work, graduate or professional school

♦ You are looking for courses with small class sizes that are taught by professors with Ph.D.s

♦ You want opportunities to do research with faculty.

♦ You need state-of-the-art science laboratory skills in microbial cultivation, identification, molecular biology and cell culture

See yourself here...

Can you see yourself learning about the microscopic world and putting that knowledge to good use by researching solutions for today's challenges?

A microbiology degree can help you make that happen. Microbiology is one of the few degrees with a great overlap of different industries, offering a variety of career choices as you continue to learn, develop your skills, and define how you want to impact the world.
