What Next?

Upon acceptance, you will receive an email providing shipping information for your acceptance packet to be mailed to you. Watch your email closely because this is how you will be notified of documents missing and when an admissions decision has been made.

The acceptance packet will be mailed to you by standard mail or courier. It will include your acceptance letter, I-20 (if applicable), information regarding the I-901 fee, orientation and housing.

Steps for Applying for J-1 Visa and F-1 Student Visa

  1. Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee by going to fmjfee.comPrint a copy of the receipt and keep it with your records.
  2. Make a visa appointment with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate to apply for a Visa. To check locations and to make an appointment go to the US Embassy website.
  3. Go to the Visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. For more details, check out the U.S. Visas Study and Exchange page.
    • Each applicant must submit the following forms and documentation listed below:
      • Acceptance Letter from WSU
      • Form I-20 or DS-2019
      • Online Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, Form DS-160
      • Passport – valid for travel to the U.S. & with validity date at least six months beyond intended period of stay in the U.S.
      • One (1) 2x2 photograph
      • A MRV fee receipt to show payment of the visa application fee
      • The SEVIS I-901 fee receipt
    • Be prepared to provide transcripts, diplomas, test scores, and financial evidence

Received Visa - What's Next?

  1. Confirm your attendance by emailing  intladmissions@weber.edu
  2. Plan to arrive on campus before the mandatory International Student Orientation, which is normally held theWednesday before the first day of class.
  3. Make your housing arrangements:
    • Apply for on-campus housing through your eWeber student portal. Contact our housing department at housing@weber.edu or visit the Housing website for help. Please contact Housing to arrange your move-in date. Remember, you are responsible for the pro-rated cost. Please note that you may only be able to move in one week before classes begin.  
    • Other housing can be found near campus through rentler.com or other websites.
  4. Make transportation arrangements:
    • If free shuttle service is available, we will send you a confirmation along with detailed instructions on how, where, and when to find the shuttle at the airport.
    • You are welcome to schedule and pay for your own transportation through any of these services:
      • XPRESS Shuttle: 1-800-397-0773 or 801-596-1600
      • More ground transportation options available at the Salt Lake City International Airport

Visa Interview Tips

  1. The visa interview process takes about 45 minutes.
  2. Please complete your own application for the visa.
  3. Be prepared with your documents.
  4. Do not prepare a speech, but speak honestly.
  5. Be confident for your reasons to study in the US and at Weber State University. Help the interviewer see that you will be a good student and try your best.
  6. Know your plans for after you finish studying.
  7. You may be asked about what your parents or sponsor does for a living. The consulate official will want to be sure you have enough funds to study in the US.
  8. If you are denied the visa, we can help you with a new I-20 for a later semester. However; if nothing has changed in your circumstances, you may be denied the visa again.
  9. Don’t worry! Many students are applying for a visa just like you.
