Weber State Partners

Never Again Rwanda- NAR is a peacebuilding and social justice organization. Our head office is based in Kigali, and we have 4 field offices in four districts. We currently have five strategic pillars: Youth Engagement, Strategic Partnership, Research, Peacebuilding, Governance and Human Rights. Students will be placed on one of these pillars depending on their field of interest of area of study. Some of the assignments students will include documentation (developing new concepts for different programs), research to inform policies, fieldwork (for learning), document review (proofreading and editing), desk review and more depending on the duration of the internship.

  • Location: Rwanda, primarily Kigali with potential for other locations.
  • Applicable major/minor: Political Science, International Studies, Legal Studies, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Women and Gender Studies, Communication, English, French, and more.
  • Weekly hours: Full-time
  • Length of internship: From one month to one semester.
  • Rate of Pay: Unpaid
  • Requirements: Positive attitude, ability to work under pressure, and good writing skills.

Catholic Community Services - CCS has refugee resettlement programs in both Ogden and Salt Lake City.  Weber State students can be placed at this organization to work on a variety of projects, depending on organizational need and student fit. Projects have included (or are currently recruiting for): resource mapping in local communities - i.e. affordable housing, employment opportunities, and schools for incoming refugee families, teaching English and other subjects including civics review, assimilation to Utah and the United States, and more. 

  • Location: Northern Utah, including Ogden and Salt Lake City
  • Applicable major/minor: Political Science, International Studies, Foreign Language, Sociology, Social Work, Education, ESL, and others.
  • Weekly hours: 8 to 15 hours per week
  • Length of internship: 1 semester, either Fall, Spring, or Summer.
  • Paid/unpaid: Unpaid

Community Development Network - The CDN works to fight structural barriers for people in Africa on topics including education and health. They are currently working on a project to expand educational access. 

  • Location: Accra, Ghana or Remotely
  • Applicable minor/major: Political Science, International Studies, Computer Science, Education, Health or Medical, Social Work, Women and Gender Studies, etc. 
  • Weekly hours: Full-time
  • Length of internship: 2 weeks to 2 months from April-August
  • Program cost: For the Ghana option: $1,200 (includes 3 credit hours but not airfare)
  • How to apply: Application due April 1, 2021 to admin@comdevnet.org 

Steps to Complete Internship

  1. Communicate with professors and the university for possible ideas in your field of study.
  2. Locate an internship with a partner or other organization that will further your career goals.
  3. Verify with Dr. Wolfe that the internship counts towards the International Studies program.
  4. Discuss with the internship coordinator to receive credit.
