Scholarships

Weber State University provides more than $90 million in financial aid and scholarships each year.

To find out what scholarships and aid you qualify for, fill out the WSU Financial Aid & Scholarships Application and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office website.

The Scholarship Application is available on your 'WSU Student Portal'. To be considered for any WSU scholarships, you must complete the Weber State University scholarship application annually, usually before the middle of January.

To complete the Scholarship application, go to: https://www.weber.edu/. Log into your eWeber Student Portal to gain access to WSU's scholarship application.

Utah Recreation and Parks Association Current Student Scholarship

The Utah Recreation and Parks Association has generously funded this scholarship for Outdoor & Community Recreation Education students at Weber State University. This scholarship is designed to support students in their first year taking classes in Outdoor and Community Recreation Education. The funds can be used for tuition, fees, or other expenses a student incurs related to their education at Weber State University. Students must complete Weber State University’s scholarship application (see above) and the Utah Recreation and Parks Association Scholarship supplemental application. Apply now!

Award Criteria

  • Must be a declared Outdoor & Community Recreation Education major
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Enrolled as a full-time student
  • Must have taken 9 OCRE credits

Utah Recreation and Parks Association Graduating Student Scholarship

The Utah Recreation and Parks Association has generously funded this scholarship for Outdoor & Community Recreation Education students at Weber State University. This scholarship is available to students who are preparing to graduate and complete an internship. The funds can be used for tuition, fees, or other expenses a student incurs related to their education at Weber State University. Students must complete Weber State University’s scholarship application (see above) and the Utah Recreation and Parks Association Scholarship supplemental application. Apply now!

Award Criteria

  • Must be a declared Outdoor & Community Recreation Education major
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Enrolled as a full-time student
  • Must have taken 50 OCRE credits

The Dick and Jan Motta Scholarship

Dick Motta was the Weber State basketball coach in the 1960s and won three Big Sky Conference titles before becoming the head coach of the Chicago Bulls, Washington Bullets, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets. Motta won an NBA Championship with the 1977–78 Washington Bullets. 

Award Criteria

  • Applicant must be a coaching sport minor and physical education teaching/coaching minor.
  • Applicant must have a grade point average of 3.0 or greater.

The Reed K. Swenson Physical Education Teaching Scholarship

For 40 years, from 1933 to 1973, Reed K. Swenson was a professor and coach for Weber State College, and former chairman for the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. During his tenure at Weber State College, he was nationally prominent in college athletics and served as president of the National Junior College Athletic Association. In 1980, he was named to the Utah Sports Hall of Fame. The Reed K. Swenson building was named in his honor for his continued dedication and support of education and athletics.

Award Criteria

  • Applicant must be a Physical Education Teaching major with at least a junior status.

The Carol S. Westmoreland Scholarship

Carol S. Westmoreland was a dedicated teacher who loved Weber State University. She treasured the many students whom she taught and whose lives she touched in so many ways. Westmoreland taught physical education at WSU for 38 years, from 1955 to 1993. She organized and directed the Weber State dancers, known as the Weber State College Colleens/Chatonelles. She served as WSU Director of Women’s Intercollegiate Sports for 15 years, and supervised countless student teachers. In addition, Westmoreland was an NCAA Faculty Representative; served as President of the Utah Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 1985; served on the Board of Directors for the Utah Tennis Association; and was appointed to the State Fitness Task Force and the Status of Women’s Commission.

Award Criteria

  • Applicant must be a junior or senior majoring in Physical Education teaching.
  • Applicant must have a grade point average of 3.0 or greater.
  • The scholarship shall be for tuition only.
