Earn your degree in the Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation, the most active department on campus.

Complete the steps listed below to enroll in one of our programs:

Secondary Applications
 

• Health Promotion

  In addition to the steps listed above, you must complete prerequisite courses and a separate application for the Health Promotion program.

  Application

  For an application form, contact program director Michael Olpin at molpin@weber.edu. Submit the application with a copy of student transcript.

  Requirements

  • Transcript must demonstrate completion of 25 credit hours, including HLTH 1030 and HTHS 1110 or ZOOL 1020, with a minimum Weber State GPA of 3.0.
  • Students must demonstrate grades of B or higher in all required health promotion major courses, and C or higher in all support courses.

  Retention Requirements

  After students are selected into the health promotion major, retention in the program will be based on the following criteria:

  • Grade “B” or better in all "required" major courses
  • Grade “C” or better in all support courses (e.g., professional block, electives)
  • Overall WSU GPA of 3.0 or higher in all courses required for this major.

  Students who fail to meet the retention criteria will be placed on probation in the health promotion major for one semester. If standards are not met by the end of the probationary period, the student may be dismissed from the major at the discretion of the program director.

  • Students who receive any grade below a B in a "required" health promotion major course must repeat that course and receive a grade of “B” or higher to remain in the major.
  • Students who receive any grade below a C in a health promotion support course must repeat that course and receive a grade of “C” or higher to remain in the major.
  • Failure to repeat the course (when offered) will result in dismissal from the program at the discretion of the program director.
• Physical Education/Coaching Education

  In addition to completing the steps listed above, you must fulfill the following requirements to join any physical education or coaching education programs.

  Application

  You must apply for admittance by Nov. 10 or March 10 during your first semester of taking Physical Education Professional (PEP) courses. You will be unable to register for PEP 3520, PEP 3520L, PEP 3630, PEP 3660, PEP 4700, PEP 4710, PEP 4860C, PEP 4830, or PEP 4990 until admission requirements have been met.

  Requirements

  • Declared major, minor or BIS in a Physical Education or Coaching Education program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • You may transfer a maximum of 12 physical education professional course credits from another institution per the physical education program director approval.
  • Fingerprinting/background check must be cleared prior to admission to the program. Provisional admission is granted for one semester only until the check is completed.
  • Sport specific skills and fitness tests must be completed and passed at the Control/Utilization Level and Health Fitness Zone. Sport-specific skill and fitness testing is offered once during each of fall and spring semesters. Provisional admission may be granted for up to three semesters.
  • Student disposition score above 20 in each course taken.

  Teaching

  If you are applying for a teaching track, you must also meet the Department of Teacher Education admission and licensure requirements.
