RYAN HUBRICH
supply chain graduate '24 outstanding grad

Weber State feels like family.

WHY WEBER STATE?

I initially chose Weber State because It was close to home and I thought it would be a low stakes university to finish up my associates degree before I transferred to BYU. However, I loved that first semester so much that I decided to stay here for my bachelors as well. The faculty at Weber feel like family and they truly know and care about each student on an individual level. I never had one professor that wasn't willing to take me under their wing when I requested extra assistance.

WHY SUPPLY CHAIN?

One reason I chose supply chain was because I had made some friends in the few short years leading up to the beginning of my university experience who were working in the logistics career field and they told me "you will never not find a job in logistics". I also thought supply chain would give me a unique perspective on how business works. I was proved right on both of those fronts.

FELT LIKE HOME

I truly believe that studying supply chain at Weber State University will leave any student with a hyper awareness of the inner workings of business and how the products we consume everyday are created and handled by everyday individuals from all around the world. I was exposed to procurement (purchasing), logistics, data optimization, quality control, supplier relations, human behavior and much more. Supply Chain also pushes people outside their comfort zone by giving students the opportunity to think critically through case study analysis, creating presentations, and working in groups.

More generally I enjoyed Weber State University because It felt like home. I made the conscious decision to get involved at Weber. I participated in clubs, student ambassador teams, and many sporting events. I felt like I knew each of Weber's campuses west of the mountains super well. It didn't matter where I was, If I was on Weber grounds then I felt like I belonged.

FACULTY IMPACT

I could probably list a few! However, I will stick with Ben Neve. Ben is extremely down to earth, very smart, and he has an amazing ability to relate to students as individuals, not just as clients. Ben has kids who are attending Weber State University themselves and so I believe he is in tune with the younger generation. Ben has become not just a professor, but a true lifelong friend as he was always willing to discuss just about anything with me.

I also need to shout out Nancy Tomon. I never took a class she taught, but she supported the Supply Chain Department with absolute class. Nancy is the kindest, most helpful, caring, hard-working woman I have come in contact with in the past few years. She is the light of the Supply Chain Department and arguably the business school. My experience at Weber State University was significantly enhanced as a result of her actions.

ADVICE

Your time at Weber State University is going to be what you  make it. It is true that Weber is not like other universities in the state. Weber won't happen to you, you must make a consistent and conscious effort to be involved in programs, student life, and campus activities. I can promise anybody that if they do integrate themselves, that people will be waiting for them with open arms and their experience will be unforgettable. Weber State and the business school specifically are hidden gems that can offer students both professional and career opportunities that you won't find anywhere else. Not to mention our faculty is incredibly educated and so nice that they alone make Weber worth attending.

WHAT'S NEXT

Last summer I completed an internship at Hill Air Force Base. The program was called the "Premier College Internship Program (PCIP)". I have since continued to work on base part time and unless I find an incredible job somewhere else, I am planning to convert to a full-time position there this January / February working as a civilian supply planner. Me and my wife will be living in Fruit Heights, UT so if people want to talk to me for advice or feedback about Weber, the business school, or Supply Chain, they can find me on LinkedIn!
