WHY FINANCE?

I know a few people who have gotten a degree in finance, and I knew it served them well. I wanted a useful degree, and I thought Finance would be useful in many different ways. I knew I would be able to use what I learned in the classroom in my life.

UNTAPPED POTENTIAL

The professors were the best part of the experience. I’m a non-traditional student – I work full-time, which I think is common at Weber State. My professors were very understanding and willing to work with me. They did a great job of explaining the material. I had professors that inspired me – extending invitations that challenged me and motivated me. They saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself.

FACULTY IMPACT

Terrilyn Morgan was very helpful. She was a mentor for me. I told her about my situation and she was able to give me great advice and perspective. I also learned a lot from Keinsley’s economics class. I learned so much that applied directly to my career. Brett Merrell with the Career Center was a great resource for me and helped me create a vision for myself of what I wanted to do after Weber State.

ADVICE

---

With the Finance major, what you get out of it depends on what you put into it. If you’re just trying to get a grade or a piece of paper, that’s all you’ll get…and it will be a waste. Take time to learn and APPLY what you’re learning to the real world. You’ll make connections and see how what you’re learning will help you in your career. Be prepared to work. It’s a lot of fun. You make great connections with students and the professors.
