“The Goddard School is somewhat of a hidden gem. My professors AND advisors were always willing to help me in any way possible.”
WHY WEBER STATE?
Upon graduating high school, I knew that I wanted to go to college. The issue for me, however, was that I had little to no money to pay for college. I ended up here at Weber State not only because of its relatively low cost, but more importantly because of its level of acceptance.
WHY MARKETING?
Once I started college, I felt completely lost. I had no idea what I wanted to do. Because of this, I chose to major in marketing simply because it sounded interesting. Now, upon graduating, I realize that marketing was the right choice for me. I absolutely love it as it allows me to think critically, creatively, and analytically.
INCREDIBLE ACCESS
The Goddard School is somewhat of a hidden gem. I feel that the school is often overlooked, despite the numerous outstanding professors. My professors were almost always willing to help me in any way possible. The advisors were a huge help as well, as they were more than happy to meet with me and assist me. I definitely feel that anyone who is unsure of what to study should consider a degree within the Goddard School!
FACULTY IMPACT
Loisanne Kattelman, Charles Durbin, and Clinton Amos are outstanding professors and I would recommend them to anyone going into business. Kattelman made accounting much more enjoyable and understandable, Durbin showed me marketing can be fun, and Amos truly set the bar for excellence.
ADVICE
Where do I begin?! Here are the things I’ve learned. Park at the Dee and avoid the stress and cost of the other lots. Check rate my professor before registering!!! Register for classes ASAP as spots fill up fast. Always check the syllabus. Don’t be afraid to reach out to advisors or professors, they are often flexible and usually willing to help. Take the risk and wait to buy the textbooks; professors will often say it’s required even though you may never use it during the course. Remember that your grades reflect your effort; the more time you put into studying, the better you’ll do. Take advantage of college benefits such as free gym access or discounts. Lastly, don’t wait to apply for jobs/internships!
WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER ASPIRATIONS?
Currently I am just starting to launch my career in marketing. I recently got hired on for a paid internship and I look forward to seeing where I go from there! I hope to one day be a marketing manager or even a product manager for a large company like Apple (wouldn’t that be a dream)!
