WHY WEBER STATE?
"I was born in Cortez, Colorado and grew up there. Most of my older siblings moved to Utah for economic reasons, so my family followed suit just as I was getting ready to begin my undergraduate studies. Weber was able to provide a good mix of quality education and affordability which really suited my needs."
WHY ECONOMICS?
"I became interested in economics as soon as I took my first economics course. I really enjoyed the way that economics was able to explain how and why people make decisions with scarce resources. I was also interested in pursuing a more general business degree, so I decided to pursue business economics. Around the time I was ready to declare, I heard about a new international business economics offering and I knew that was the perfect fit for my interests and would be very marketable."
INCREDIBLE ACCESS
"With its AACSB accreditation, the Goddard School can provide a demonstrably high-quality education with diverse teachers for an affordable price. Few other schools in the western U.S. can match that level of quality per dollar. There are tons of resources, from tutoring, to counseling and health. The university has a good mix of services available for students. Not to mention the professors, who were always willing to put aside their projects and activities to help me work through a difficult homework problem or to provide insight into my plans for career and graduate school."
FACULTY IMPACT
"I was able to meet almost all the faculty of the economics department, either by taking classes directly from them or through my participation in SEA. I would credit Sandeep Rangaraju with having the biggest impact because he provided the greatest amount of support and feedback for my economics research paper."
ADVICE
"Try to say yes to everything you can. Saying yes allowed me to become a tutor, write and present a research paper, join several student clubs and organizations, attend a one-day leadership conference, participate in a research study, become a commencement speaker, be accepted into the honors program, do a study abroad, and so many other experiences. These not only enhance the education but also add a ton of value to a resume."
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
"I am working full-time for an economic development consulting firm. I am a senior analyst and am a team lead for all projects in Nevada and New Mexico, with some projects in Utah as well. I was just accepted into Johns Hopkins University and will be pursuing a MS in applied economics starting in January 2021."
