“The professors and the students in the business school are amazing."
WHY FINANCE?
I wasn’t set on any major in particular when I started. After taking a few of the gen ed courses, I knew I wanted to go the business route – I liked the professors, and the students, and the environment. I thought, “It’s going to be something here.” I had some classes from great professors – Chambers, Kattleman, but when I took Morgan’s 3200 class, I knew then that it was Finance.
MY EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
The professors and students in the business school were amazing. The professors made it engaging and the subjects made sense. They opened up my view and helped me to see that there are no concrete answers – you have to work with it and prove it. It was great to meet other students with similar views to mine. In the past, group projects were a chore, but at the business school it felt great to work together.
ADVICE
Show up to every class – don’t miss. When you miss classes you lose forward progress, and in-person classes create a culture of accountability. Submit all of your work, even if it’s not perfect.
WHAT'S NEXT?
I’m currently working for KPMG in Salt Lake City. I took Brett Merrill’s course, and one of the requirements was that we set up a Handshake account. Not long after I did that a recruiter from KPMG came to me. I’ve been working with them since June of 2021, doing virtual work. I will probably continue working for them and see how it goes. I’d like to look for work in investment banking, and may go to graduate school.
