ASHLEIGH
leadership '22 (outstanding grad)
“This was hands-down the best thing I have ever done. Having leadership as a discipline has been incredibly impactful and meaningful to me and has enabled me to already being making a difference in our education system here at Weber State University."
WHY WEBER STATE?
I originally came to Weber State University with the intention to make a difference in our education system. I thought becoming a physical education teacher was how I was going to do it--then COVID hit. I was coaching cross country at Fremont High School (go Silver Wolves), and I quickly realized I was not cut out to manage the high schoolers. So I went back to the drawing board. At this time, I was invited to a research lab on campus. I quickly fell in love with neuroscience and changed my major to a BIS. One of my mentors suggested I do leadership for one of my BIS disciplines. This was hands down one of the best decisions I have ever made.
WHY LEADERSHIP?
Having leadership as a discipline has been incredibly impactful and meaningful to me and has enabled me to already being making a difference in our education system here at Weber State University.
INCREDIBLE ACCESS
The Goddard School is so unique because all of the faculty members I have studied under are beyond passionate about what they do, and they are willing do what ever they can to help you.
FACULTY IMPACT
Dr. Jennifer Anderson greatly impacted my life. I met her in one of the worst situations I have faced. She provided support, mentorship, and a collaborative environment when I needed. She has taught me everything I used to re-define myself, impact others lives, and how to rise to the occasion. Without her, can honestly say I do not know where I would be.
ADVICE
Do it. It's not easy, but you will get so much out of it.
WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER ASPIRATIONS?
Waiting to reapply to PhD programs for Cell and Molecular Neuroscience. I want to get a PhD and make an impact on many lives through research and by becoming a professor.
