supply chain management
“My favorite thing about WSU was that I was able to sit and eat my lunch, while also enjoying the relaxing scenery of Weber State. It’s hard to stay stressed when it’s so beautiful around you.”
WHY WEBER STATE?
I am the first college graduate in my extremely large Mexican-American family, but I won’t be the last to graduate! I started working a production job after high school with long hours where I had to stand all day, which I did not enjoy. I found out that they would pay for school tuition, so I decided to go to school because I didn’t really have anything better to do. While I was working this job, I had changed my major multiple times. I majored in Chemistry, Teaching, Spanish, and I’m sure there were others that I can’t remember before I decided on Goddard. I also took 2 year long breaks from school before I ended up at Goddard, but when I got here it pretty much changed my life.
WHY SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT?
I had chosen Supply Chain because I had read a story about a woman that had recently graduated from WSU with her Supply Chain Degree from my company newsletter. In the article I read, she stated that she had raised two kids and worked full-time while she was going to school and when she graduated, she was promoted to a Supervisor, so I was like, what am I waiting for? I made an appointment with the Goddard counselor to enroll in classes.
INCREDIBLE ACCESS
For me, it was the community at the Goddard School. All the teachers knew me by name, so of course, I always felt obligated to stay on top of my homework. I could ask them questions or meet with them outside of class, because they weren’t swarmed with people. I was timid before I came to Goddard and it was hard for me to talk to professor but soon they felt like family.
FACULTY IMPACT
Dr. Dee pushed me out of my comfort zone, a lot. One situation that I can think of was when I made a funny suggestion that we should do a business attire “runway show,” because I didn’t know what to wear on my interviews and I felt like other students also needed help in that department. Then when she asked me to start organizing it, I was like, “oh, you actually wanted me to do that?” The event was a success both years that I was there! At first, I was so nervous to do things like that, but when things were feeling like they were too much, she would take time out of her day to meet with us and help in our success.
ADVICE
Find a good group of study friends. Those people are the people that you sometimes see more than your own family, but they end up becoming like family. You're doing yourself a disservice by not meeting other students that are in your major and working with them, Also, always apply for scholarships!! You don’t have to be a straight A student to get scholarships!
