Why Choose General Studies?

Weber State’s major in general studies gives you a solid educational base from a broad variety of courses.
You’ll learn important life skills and can explore potential careers and other majors.

Benefits of a General Studies Degree

If you have completed a number of general education courses, you should ask how close you are to receiving a general studies associate’s degree.

What You’ll Learn

General studies students become well-rounded graduates through coursework in the humanities and creative arts, social sciences, and physical and life sciences. You will also become proficient in computer and information literacy, quantitative literacy and writing.

Available Degrees

You can choose between an Associate of Science (AS) or Associate of Arts (AA) degree. The AA requires proficiency in a foreign language.

See the Weber State University Catalog for more information.

Online Degree Options

You can earn a general studies associate’s degree online, although the full list of course options are not offered online. For more information, contact the Student Success Center at 801-626-6752.

Employment Opportunities

General studies associate’s degree graduates are qualified to pursue entry-level employment that requires a general education foundation. The highly transferable knowledge and skills are strongly desired by employers in many different settings.

Keep in mind:

Associate’s degree graduates earn an average of about $6,450 more a year than people with a high school diploma.

The 2017 unemployment rate for people with an associate’s degree was 3.4 percent, compared to 4.6 percent for those with only a high school diploma.
