
General Education Course Renewal Process
Timeline
2025-2026
Fall 2025: All Gen Ed CORE courses (EN1, EN2, QL, AI, CC) are required to submit renewal materials (see below) to GEIAC by OCT 2025.
Spring 2026: Approved core courses are renewed for 5 years until 2030.
Remediation work for courses with incomplete or insufficient applications
2026-2027
Fall 2026: All Gen Ed BREADTH courses (CA, HU, SS, LS, PS, CC) are required to submit renewal materials to GEIAC by OCT 2026.
Spring 2027: Approved breadth courses are renewed for 5 years until 2031.
Remediation work for courses with incomplete or insufficient applications
Required Application Materials
Courses Seeking Renewal in the Gen Ed Program
- Curriculog Form 3.1 Gen Ed Course Proposal/Renewal completed with the following attachments:
- Representative or common course syllabus that is aligned with the appropriate Gen Ed Syllabus Checklist
- General Education Rationale form (under development)
- Completed Evidence of Learning (EOL) worksheet outlining at least two semesters of assessment data.
- Threshold is established for all GE courses at “70% of students will achieve 80% or higher” because that is a mission fulfillment metric.
- While this threshold may be aspirational, it is focused on overall student success. Programs will not lose their GE designation for failing to meet threshold on assessment metrics provided they have clear action plans to address the findings. Assessment data must be interpreted and action plans outlined for curricular revision or ongoing continuous improvement.
- Threshold is established for all GE courses at “70% of students will achieve 80% or higher” because that is a mission fulfillment metric.
- A representative Canvas course or sandbox with course assessments beyond the Signature Assignment (e.g., exams, homework) aligned with new ALOs (see “Preparing your Course for Gen Ed Assessment”). GEIAC Chair (Vice Chair) and Director of General Education as Course Trustees to review for compliance.
Courses Seeking Removal from the Gen Ed Program
- Curriculog Form ## completed with the following attachment:
- General Education Discontinuation Form (under development) for courses that seek to have their GE attributes removed for their course and not undergo the renewal process.
