Come see the world through another’s eyes.

A foreign language degree goes far beyond learning how to speak another language. In the Department of Foreign Languages, we promote intercultural understanding by having you dive into studies of culture, literature, teaching methods, business language and more. Our new degrees in Translation and Localization cater to the increasing need for highly skilled and specialist linguists across a wide range of industries and settings.

Our internship and study abroad programs give you the opportunity to study in places including China, France, Costa Rica, Spain, Japan and Germany, where you can hone your language skills by interacting with native speakers and experience the culture first-hand.

The experience and language proficiency you gain will add a new layer to the way you see the world, increase your reach in today's global society and give you a competitive edge finding jobs in local and worldwide markets.

Foreign Languages majors will acquire skills relevant to a variety of careers that may involve translation or require advanced language and communication skills. These include:

$56,000

National average starting salary for graduates with a bachelor's degree in foreign languages.

10-15%

Increase to base wages for employees with proficiency in a second language.

$25,000

Average of private scholarships distributed to foreign languages majors every year at WSU.
