Employee Wellness Internships

Employee Wellness works with the Department of Health Promotion & Human Performance to provide hands-on internships to WSU students. 

Our internships are unpaid, but they provide the convenience of being able to complete internship hours immediately before, after or between classes. 

 

Available Internships

We currently offer 4 types of internships:

 

 
  • Health Promotion

    (2 positions open, 1-2 credit hours)

    Duties include assisting with our monthly newsletter, implementing and evaluating monthly health challenges, conducting health improvement classes and developing online health resources for faculty and staff.

    Interns may have the opportunity to coach employees about testing results and goal setting. Other duties include general office work and additional tasks/projects as needed.

    Interns would need to be able to complete their hours during the mornings (8 a.m.-10 a.m., Tuesday-Friday), with the opportunity to work extra hours in the afternoon.

  • Exercise and Sport Science

    General Personal Training

    (2 positions open, 1-2 credit hours)

    Duties include conducting monthly gym orientations and fitness assessment classes. Interns will also have the opportunity to conduct guided personal training for the general healthy population of employees and spouses. 

    Interns will assist with a large semester challenge that includes body composition testing and participant communication. 

    Other duties include general office work and additional tasks/projects as needed. Most work occurs after the noon hour. Must have completed ESS 2300.

  • Exercise and Sport Science

    Special Population Personal Training

    (2 positions open, 2-3 credit hours)

    Duties include conducting personal training with employees and spouses who have elevated cholesterol, blood pressure, and/or glucose. Students will work with the same participants twice a week for twelve weeks, as part of the Employee Wellness WellCats program.

    Other duties include general office work and additional tasks/projects as needed. Most work occurs after the noon hour. Must have completed or concurrent enrollment in          ESS 4370. 

  • Group Exercise Instructor

    (2 positions open, 1 credit hour)

    This internship is perfect for a student who has recently obtained a group exercise certificate but needs to build experience.

    Duties include conducting 2 50-minute classes each week. The intern will be responsible for tracking attendance. Other duties include general office work and additional tasks/projects as needed.

Step 1 - Schedule a meeting with  Barbara Dirks barbaradirks@weber.edu, Internship Coordinator for Health Promotion and Exercise Science

Step 2 - Complete the HPHP Internship Contract and bring it to Employee Wellness in person to Wildcat Center Room 210F.

Step 3- Interview with the Employee wellness 

 

Applications accepted until December 14, 2018. Internships start January 14, 2019.
