Required Elements:
Please fill out all of the fields in the Curriculog form.
The following items are essential and must include enough detail for the committee to evaluate:
1. Syllabus statement: It must explain to students what the course fee is for. It should describe the major categories of expenses, but does not need to include a detailed list.
Example: Course fees are designed to cover the costs of photo and printing supplies, computer hardware and software in the digital art lab, and the wages of a dedicated lab aid.
2. Revenue estimates: These are determined by multiplying the estimated enrollment by the course fee. The committee is looking to see that the revenues do not exceed the estimated costs. Using a 3-semester rolling average is a consistent way to estimate enrollment to account for fluctuations from semester to semester.
3. Cost estimates: You must provide an estimate for all of the major categories of expenses that you include in the syllabus statement.
Example:
● Consumable printing and framing supplies: $3,000
● Lab aide wages: $10,000
● Annual cost of cameras and lenses (estimated total cost $55,500 replaced every 5 years): $11,1000
Note: wages are a consumable expense because it is spent in the semester/year and does not use funds that are carried forward.
For non-consumables that are replaced on a more-than-annual basis, you must include the replacement cycle (e.g. every five years) and then annualize the cost (divide the total cost to replace by the number of years in the replacement cycle.
4. For shared resources only: For resources, such as labs, that are shared across multiple courses, please use a spreadsheet to show how the costs of non-consumables are annualized over the replacement cycle and to show which courses (with estimated revenue) contribute to the maintenance of the shared resources. Spreadsheet attachments are the preferred way to handle documenting these kinds of courses fee expenses and estimated revenues.
For an example spreadsheet showing how to calculate this, email Crystelle Bergeson at crystellebergeson@weber.edu.
5. If you have a large number of courses that use the same course fee structure and justification, please contact Crystelle Bergeson (crystellebergeson@weber.edu). She can help determine how to best get the information needed into Curriculog.
