12th Annual WSU Service Day of Remembrance

This event is hosted by the Center for Community Engaged Learning during Homecoming Week for all students, community members, faculty, and staff to serve the community in honor of someone who has passed away or for those who embody service in the community.

This event qualifies as an eligible Service Leave activity under PPM 3-66.
Eligible WSU employees, please communicate with your supervisor for approval to participate.

**Read each project below, then click on the "Register to Volunteer" button for the project you wish to volunteer at.**

Volunteer opportunities will include:

"Homes Made Safer" & "Wildfire Home Visit" with American Red Cross of Northern Utah

Interested volunteers must attend a mandatory training at Weber State prior to participating in these two vital programs: Homes Made Safer and Wildfire Home Visits. Following this training, volunteers will travel on provided transportation to neighborhoods within Ogden City to educate households on fire safety. If interested and eligible, households may allow volunteers to install free smoke alarms, give assessments on wildfire management, and teach about how to "Be Red Cross Ready".

**Volunteers interested in this project must commit to the whole time (training and off-campus volunteer site).**

Mandatory Training Time & Location: 

  • Time: 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
  • Location: Shepherd Union room 301

Location of Off-Campus Volunteer Sites with Time Commitment: 

  • Time: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Locations: Likely in Ogden City. More information will be shared when homes are identified by the Red Cross.

"Thank a Veteran for Veterans Day" with the American Red Cross of Northern Utah & "Build Storybook Kits" with OWCAP

Help assemble packages and thank-you cards with American Red Cross of Northern Utah for veterans. The American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces will deliver cards and packages to VA Nursing Homes, VA Hospitals, and local VA Organization VFW’s, etc. Interested volunteers can drop-in during the designated time to assemble packages and decorate thank-you cards for veterans for Veteran's Day.

Help cut out storybook kits to go with their designated storybooks for the Ogden-Weber Community Action Partnership (OWCAP). Each volunteer will receive a bundle of images to cut out. The goal is to complete as many storybook kits as possible to provide each child with at least one book and kit to take home.

This is a drop-in service for those who are unable to travel off campus or have only a few moments of their time to give.

  • Location: Shepherd Union Ballrooms (Ogden Campus)

"Wildlife Conservation & Sustainability" with Ogden Nature Center

The Adrian Maxson Day of Service, as part of the Weber State Service Day of Remembrance, at the Ogden Nature Center is a day for DaVinci Academy students to honor the life of Adrian Maxson, an early-college student who was attending both DaVinci Academy and WSU when he was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident. Adrian Maxson was a humanitarian and had a passion for social justice issues, art and the outdoors. In his memory, the senior class at DaVinci Academy will be giving back to the community and participating in a day of service at the Ogden Nature Center. Interested volunteers will sign up to attend this six-hour volunteer opportunity while sharing their college experiences with prospective WSU students.
