Vandalism in Stewart Library
Date: Jan. 19, 2024
What happened: Four books on Jewish history and identity were found defaced with antisemitic markings in the Stewart Library. Upon further inspection of the area, library staff found several other books whose spines had similar markings.
Weber State’s response: Due to the vandalism, the Weber State Police Department sent an officer to the library to make a report and start an investigation, which is ongoing. It’s unclear at this time when these crimes occurred or by whom. Staff and student employees completed a full inspection of all other books over the weekend. The library is reevaluating its process for regularly inspecting its collection and plans to replace the defaced books.
Vandalism and destruction of Weber State property are punishable by law. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Weber State police at 801-626-6460.
